The National Day of Truth and Reconciliation
The National Day of Truth and Reconciliation is a significant day in Canada dedicated to acknowledging the historical injustices faced by Indigenous peoples, particularly the legacy of residential schools. It is a day for reflection, education, and an opportunity for all Canadians to come together in the spirit of reconciliation.
The Golden Horseshoe Aquatic Club, in recognition of the importance of this day, acknowledges that its training pools are situated on the traditional territories of the Mississauga and Haudenosaunee nations and within lands protected by the "Dish with One Spoon" wampum agreement. This acknowledgment is a meaningful step towards honoring the Indigenous heritage of the land and demonstrating respect for the history and culture of the local Indigenous communities.
On Saturday, September 30th, our swimmers and coaches wear orange as a symbol of solidarity and support for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
This initiative underscores the club's commitment to raising awareness and actively participating in the process of reconciliation, promoting understanding and unity among its members while paying tribute to the resilience of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
