Murray Drudge Invitational + BAC Team Showdown + Masters IM Fast Challenge Swim Meet Reviews

Middlesex Swimming would like to congratulate all of our age group and masters’ swimmers that raced these last two weekends in Brantford or Scarborough at their respective competitions!!!

It was a very busy end to our 2025 racing schedule as the club had roughly 26 swimmers competing in competitions in 3 different swim meets that were being held, as we excitedly head into the New Year and further racing opportunities in 2026.

Murray Drudge Invitational Swim Meet REVIEW

1 of our Masters swimmer's (Dominic Lee) headed up to Scarborough earlier in December from the 5th-7th where about 1000 swimmers hit the water to race in attempt to continue on pursuing his goal of making USports times and the University of Western swim team. Although Dominic was hoping to have better results from a time perspective (as he is so very close to beating his personal best times) heading into the holiday season, he still came away from the swim meet with some solid performances, many other positive takeaways (of either elements that he did well or others that still need some attention), and he made finals in every single race that he swam during the competition!

Congratulations Dominic on your strong performances at the 2025 Murray Drudge Invitational :)

BAC TEAM SHOWDOWN REVIEW

To start last weekend off 17 of our age group swimmers began racing on Friday in Brantford at the Team Showdown. This competition had swimmers from across Ontario in attendance. Our swimmers ended up racing to top 8 finishes, loads of personal best times, heat wins, competed within new races for the first time, and again some members continued to qualify for championship swim meets in further events.

Additionally, the club would like to recognize our top male and female athletes who took off the most amount of time at the swim meet (i.e. the most improved swimmers at the swim meet).  The female swimmer with the most time taken off was Sadie Francis with 99.32secs taken off (or about 1:39.32 in time off) and the male with the most time taken off was Adam Palma with 107.28secs taken off (or about 1:47.28 in time off). Congratulations Sadie and Adam on your BIG IMPROVEMENTS in the pool this past weekend!

The top placing swimmer at the swim meet from our club was Dominic Lee who ended up achieving excellent results in the eyes of our coaching staff as well as 1st place and 3rd place finish in his 50m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly - Congratulations again Dominic on your performances and we hope that you can keep this momentum going as we head into the New Year!!!

Wonderful job everyone at the swim meet and again congratulations to you all of your performances :)

MASTERS I.M. FAST CHALLENGE REVIEW

On Sunday, December 14th 5 of our master’s swimmers were able to take advantage of another wonderful Masters swim meet that was hosted by Swim Ontario & Whitby Swimming at the beautiful Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre pool. This swim meet is particularly interesting as indicated from its name the "I.M. Fast Challenge". The competition has 5 races (50m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Freestyle, and 100m I.M. - in that order). Each competitor attempts to swim all 5 races as fast as possible (although some swimmers do select to just do a couple of the races), as this competition is usually over very quickly.

Again, not to be out done by our younger age group swimmers, our group of Masters swimmers ended up swimming superb in the races that they competed within (i.e. achieving seasonal or life time personal bests), our club had loads of podium performances from our swimmers competing at the swim meet, and Cameron Charlton was also able to set 4 new club records!!! However, as our coaching staff has said many times before, the most important parts of the swim meet (as it should always be no matter your age) was that everyone swam their best, made new friends, and pushed themselves outside of their comfort zones.

Congratulations are in order for Jillian Best for her performances at the Masters IM Fast Challenge which led to her winning the women's 35–39-year-old age category trophy for fastest accumulated race time total across the 50m Fly, Back, Breast, Free, and 100m I.M. Jillian was perfect at the swim meet going 5 for 5 winning all of her races that she swam!!!

The club would like to ensure that we provide our many thanks to the Brantford Aquatic Club (BAC), the North York Aquatic Club (NYAC), Swim Ontario, Whitby Swimming (WS), and all of the volunteer officials for helping to run all of these excellent competitions for our swimmers these past weekends! As always, many thanks to everyone who assisted in putting these events together, as we know that many unseen hours of sacrifice and hard work take place behind the scenes in order to run these swim meets... Especially as we head into the holiday season!!!

Finally, the club would like to thank our dedicated coaching staff who really, really, stretched themselves out this past weekend putting forth a remarkable effort and loads of time out of their weekends to ensure everyone was very well looked after whether at the swim meets or back at practices.
