Slauson Kevin

Sensei
5th Dan Shotokan Karate
Since 2001, Sensei Kevin Slauson has been a loyal Shotokan Karate practitioner and is now a Fifth Degree Black Belt. Having always been interested in trying some form of martial arts, Sensei Kevin began training under Sensei Charles Baker of SKI-USA. In 2003, he transferred to Satsuma Dojo and gained his First Degree Black Belt in 2006.

Sensei Kevin has cherished the dojo community and the strength of its bonds since the day he began training here and values the training as a wonderful way to keep in shape and stay strong. With traditional teaching centered around exercise and self-improvement rather than tournament-based learning, Sensei Kevin truly appreciates Kyoshi Jay Castellano’s lectures, and demonstrations.

Over the years, Sensei Kevin has had many interesting experiences. He competed in the 2012 National Championships of Shotokan Karate-Do International—U.S. Federation with Sempai Peter Rodriguez and Sensei Mithun Radhakrishnan in a team kata. They won first place. Sensei Kevin feels that his Shodan Belt test was the most memorable. In this test, he showcased his karate abilities in front of Soke Hirokazu Kanazawa. It was the first time he faced that kind of pressure and challenge in karate training. He learned to react under pressure, focus on the task at hand, push himself beyond his physical limits, and let go of mistakes. He keeps these vital lessons in mind even today.

With a great appreciation of the training he has received over the past years, Sensei Kevin always looks to give back to the community, like his favorite quote by Winston Churchill, “You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give”. Whether it is co-managing and co-teaching at the Alameda Shotokan Karate-Do Dojo of Satsuma Dojo with Sensei Enkhbold Amarjargal or teaching students in Satsuma Dojo, Sensei Kevin seeks to make an impact on the world through what he gives. Sensei Kevin’s teaching goal consists of keeping his students moving and actively engaged while being instructional and explaining the importance of techniques.

Enkhbold Amarjargal (Ebo)

Sensei

5th Dan Shotokan Karate

As a Fifth Dan black belt in Shotokan karate, Sensei Amarjargal Enkhbold (also known as Sensei Ebo) is a proud and active member of the Satsuma Dojo and Shotokan Karate International Federation (SKIF).

Sensei Enkhbold began learning Shotokan karate in 1989 with the Mongolia Karate-do Federation for the purpose of exercising. He soon became so involved with karate that, from 2003 to 2008, he worked as the General Secretary for the federation. In 2006, Sensei Enkhbold coached the Mongolian National Team which entered two major karate competitions: the 15th Asian Games, a type of mini-Olympics that includes the 45 Asian countries, and the 9th SKIF World Championships. Due to Sensei Enkhbold’s dedication and excellent coaching skills, the team won fifth place for kumite in the Asian Games and fourth place for kata in the SKIF World Championships.

In 2008, Sensei Enkhbold moved to the US and continued his karate training here in Satsuma Dojo under the guidance of Kyoshi Jay Castellano.

Sensei Enkhbold finds many of his accomplishments mostly unimportant to himself as he cherishes practice, continual improvement, and teaching others above all. He finds it important to teach and instill the values of karate spirit in the younger generations. He aims to help children become good people through karate which will extend into other areas of their lives.

In 2010, Sensei Enkhbold and Sensei Kevin Slauson opened the Alameda Shotokan Karate-do Dojo OFFICIAL BRANCH and SKIF. Currently, Sensei Enkhbold alternates between instructing students at Satsuma Dojo and teaching in the Alameda Shotokan Karate-Do Dojo.
