The Season: What to Expect

  • April: Practices begin
  • May–July: Dual meets and team events
  • July: Championship Meet (Champs)

The Sierra Sharks are a recreational swim team and swim meets are important for every athlete with their hard work and dedication bringing them to Champs!

Volunteering: What to Expect

We are a parent-run team, and volunteering is how meets and events happen.

  • Each family completes 15 volunteer points per season
  • Shifts are at meets or team events
  • Training is provided — no experience needed
  • Buy-out and sponsorship options are available

Volunteer sign-ups are managed through Sports Engine.

Swim Meets: A Quick Overview

  • Meets are usually held on Saturday mornings
  • Swimmers sign up in advance
  • Coaches assign events
  • Younger swimmers are guided step-by-step
  • Parents volunteer while kids swim
  • Your first meet may feel busy — that’s normal. It gets easier quickly.

Swim Team Language Basics

You’ll hear a few new terms:

  • Heat: One race within an event
  • Event: A specific stroke and distance
  • Ready Bench: Where swimmers 10 and under line up before racing
  • Relay: A team race with four swimmers

Communication

We are using Sports Engine for our 2026 Season. We recommend you download the app upon registration.
