Head Coach: Todd Jacobsen

Todd Jacobsen joined Whittier Aquatics Club as Head Coach in Fall 2014. And while new to the pool deck at Palm Park, he is certainly not new to the aquatics world, with over 40 years of experience in and around pools.

He most recently served as the Age Group Select Coach for Brea Aquatics from 2011 to 2014, where he trained the top age group swimmers in the program. He enjoyed the opportunity to coach numerous Junior Olympic Champions, as well as National Top 10 Swimmers. Prior to Brea, he served as the Senior Group Coach at La Mirada Armada from 2008 to 2011, in charge of training the top high school age swimmers, promoting them to the National Training Group. He also had a number of National Top 10 Swimmers while at La Mirada.

He is currently the Head Swim Coach at Sonora High School, where he has had multiple CIF Champions in the program since he took over in 2010. He also briefly served as the Head Coach of La Serna High School’s swim team, who were undefeated in his short tenure. He was chosen as the Del Rio League Coach of the Year in 2009 by the Whittier Daily News.

From 2003-2007 he was a member of the UC Irvine Men’s and Women’s Swimming Staff, where he enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with numerous NCAA Div 1 All-Americans, including a member of the USA Pan American Team in 2007 and a member of the USA World Championship Team in 2008. A number of his former swimmers also competed at the Olympic Trials, with one of them making the finals in the 200 Fly.

He was the Founder of the La Mirada Armada Water Polo Club and served as the Coastal Zone Coach for USA Water Polo in the Olympic Development Program, winning back-to-back National Championships at the Girls Youth Zone Tournament, and worked closely with Guy Baker, the Women’s Olympic Coach and the National Director of the Olympic Development Program.

He was a four-time NCAA All-American in swimming at UC San Diego as a Butterfly and IM specialist. Prior to college, he was a 4 year Varsity Letterman, CIF Finalist, and was awarded multiple MVP awards during his high school career. He also enjoyed a highly decorated age group career, being a Junior National Qualifier as well as winning multiple regional Junior Olympic titles.

Coach Jacobsen lives in Whittier with Patty, his wife of almost 25 years. They have 3 swimming children: Brennan, a 3 time CIF Champion who currently swims as a scholarship athlete for the University of Notre Dame, Colleen, a 4 time Freeway league champion who now attends Creighton University, and Jillian, a Freshman at Sonora High School, and also a Freeway League Champion.
