2025 Friesen Plastics Fall Challenge Results
Lethbridge AB, October 24-27, 2025 - The Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club (AMAC) made a strong showing at the 2025 Friesen Plastics Fall Challenge this past weekend, sending a team of 36 swimmers to compete at the Lethbridge event. The meet drew clubs from across southern Alberta, offering athletes a chance to test their early-season form and build momentum for the winter competition cycle.
AMAC’s swimmers ranged from seasoned competitors to rising talents, each contributing to a weekend filled with personal bests, top finishes, and team spirit.
The Friesen Plastics Fall Challenge is known for its fast-paced format and supportive atmosphere, making it a favorite among Alberta clubs. For AMAC, the event also served as a valuable opportunity to build team cohesion and reinforce race-day routines.
With 36 swimmers representing Medicine Hat, AMAC’s presence was one of the largest at the meet. The club continues to grow in size and strength, driven by a culture of excellence, community support, and athlete development.
As the season progresses, AMAC swimmers will set their sights on upcoming provincial qualifiers and championship meets. If this weekend’s performance is any indication, the Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club is poised for a standout season.
Coaches shout outs:
- Swim(s) Of The Meet:
- Marsha Van Der Merwe: Marsha had an amazing start to her season at the LASC Fall Challenge swim meet! She was able to put together some phenomenal swims, with primary focus on her developing technique, and obtain not just one but TWO 11-year-old Festival times! She was able to snag these times in her 50 and 200m breast, showcasing her wide range of talent and hard work within the stroke. Well done, Marsha!
- Rylee Motz: Rylee came into this swim meet with some nerves about returning to competition and, by the end of the meet, her review of 100% best times with some major drops proved just how ready to compete she is this season! The stand-out swim for Rylee, from the coaches, was her 200m freestyle where she took off over 30 seconds from her previous best time, worked on her turns and streamlines, and was a strong force in her heat to race the others beside her! Fantastic work, Rylee!

- Heart and Hustle:
- Dain Burnell: Dain had amazing swims in all of his races this past weekend in Lethbridge but the one that stood out the most was his 200m backstroke! Dain followed the technique and plan he has been working on: to do tight streamlines, big underwater dolphin kicks, and have strong breakouts off of each wall. His hard work paid off in a big way as he obtained his first ever Provincial Trials qualifying time! Congratulations, Dain!
- Katherine McMillan: Katie really brought the “heart” to the pool as she was always on deck close to the action and cheering on her teammates. Coming into this weekend with some nerves about races she has never swam, Katie had phenomenal technique and pushed hard in her swims all weekend despite the lingering nerves. A stand-out swim for her was Sunday’s 100m IM, which she has never swam, and did an outstanding job of all four strokes and all of her turns! Keep up the great work, Katie!
