Kent Nelson HEAD COACH / SENIOR BRONZE

Kent is the Head Coach and Senior Bronze Coach for Rapids Swimming, as well as the head mens and womens coach at Pine Creek High School. Coach Kent is a two time CHSAA Coach of the Year and CSML Coach of the Year.

Kristen Jenkyns HEAD AGE GROUP COACH/ CLASS 3 COACH

Swimming has been a huge part of Coach Kristen’s entire life! She was ranked in the Top 16 nationally as a competitive swimmer growing up in Kirkland, WA and is a third generation swimmer who has been a swim parent, swim grandparent, and a club and high school coach for nearly 23 years.

Coaching for Kristen started in 1987 when she was selected for a high school head coach position, as a 21 year old college junior. She was immediately successful with that team and was hooked! All told, she was a high school coach for 17 years, with three different schools in Washington State and Wisconsin. At Arrowhead High School in Wisconsin, Kristen and her husband Bob’s teams won numerous state championships, set many state records, and set national high school records twice, in the 200 medley relay.

Kristen began coaching club swimming in 2002 with Lake Country Swim Team in Wisconsin. In 2015, she and her husband moved to Colorado Springs to be nearer to grandchildren and began running Cheyenne Mountain Aquatics (CMA). After a merger and new management in the fall of 2021 changed that team substantially, Kristen resigned in spring '22 and after an exhaustive search for just the right team, she happily landed at Rocky Mountain Rapids in summer 2022! In her nearly 23 years coaching club swimming, she has developed numerous State Champions, Zone Champions, and swimmers who have gone on to swim at Olympic Trials and schools such as Stanford University.

Having a degree in Developmental Psychology, Coach Kristen really loves coaching the mental and emotional side of competitive swimming, just as much as the physical side. She loves getting to know swimmers and families and forging enduring bonds with them.

On the personal front, Coach Kristen and her husband Bob have four adult children, all of whom were highly successful swimmers, and six (soon to be seven) young grandchildren. They also have a cat, Patch. They had horses for many years and their last remaining horse, Chance, now lives with their daughter's family. In their free time, they most enjoy spending time with family and traveling to tropical, beachy locations!
Robert Jenkyns SENIOR SILVER & GOLD COACH, ADMIN COACH

I started my passion for aquatics many, many years ago. As a swimmer I wasn’t very good as I was height and athletic build challenged.  I loved to swim and learned to develop a very strong work ethic to ultimately be successful for my high school team. I started my coaching career under my inspirational high school coach and from there I worked extremely hard to develop into a successful coach. I coached at six different Wisconsin high schools ending my career with a dual meet record of 412-69, 10 D1 State Championship titles, 8 State Runner-up titles, and 37 Top Ten State team finishes.  I had numerous All-Americans, champions at all levels, and even several national record holders. The success of the swimmers led to my induction into the Arrowhead High School Hall of Fame, Wisconsin Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and numerous local and national Coach of the Year honors.

On the club level, I was thrown into a head coaching role very early in my career. I learned the ropes quickly and built my first team up from 24 to over 100 kids.  I was then recruited to join the top team in Wisconsin, Lake Country Swim Team.  I was made the head age group coach coaching the top age group swimmers and leading them to 25 long course and short course WI state championships. Throughout my years, I developed numerous state champions, zone champions, record holders, scholarship winners, and many incredible individuals who went on to have very long and successful careers. Through their success, I was very proud to be recognized as a Top 10 finalist for the Fitter & Faster Age Group Coach of the Year honor.

Coaching isn’t all that I love about aquatics.  Throughout my career I have managed country club and other aquatic facilities, run swim camps and clinics, and have been a member of numerous LSC and High School swim committees. I received my degree in Business Administration to help me become the best executive director and business manager I could be.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my newer business role within swim teams to help create fiscally strong programs so that the staff can focus on coaching. This passion for swimming and business has even led me to become the Hartford Aquatics Committee Chairman which was successful in building a $8.3 million dollar outdoor aquatic facility.

The proudest moment in my life due to my aquatics career was meeting and marrying Kristen.  We have been incredible partners, best friends, fellow coaches and even rival coaches. Throughout it all she has made me a better person, coach, parent, and grandparent. Together we have four incredible children and seven amazing grandchildren. With all of what I said about my passion for aquatics, I still tell my grandkids that I am allergic to water as they never see me in the pool or hot tub!

Rob Clayton MASTER COACH

Assistant Coach, Rocky Mountain Rapids

Head Men's Swimming Coach, USAFA

Coach Rob has worked with all the groups at Rocky Mountain Rapids over the past several years, but primarily focuses on the Senior Group.  Coach Rob began coaching a summer club in Fort Collins as a young teenager,  coached  USA Swimming clubs in Fort Collins, CO and American Fork, UT, and has been coaching college swimming for the past 23 years.  Coach Rob grew up swimming in Fort Collins and swam at the University of Wyoming, where he was an Academic All-American.  He was conference champion in both IM events, competed at the USA National Championships and the NCAA Championships.

"I love to see change.  The rate at which the young athletes are improving is sometimes mind-boggling!  Whereas my college swimmers train all year to see ever-smaller improvements, the younger RMR swimmers are literally dropping their times weekly!  It is fun to be  a part of the process and to help swimmers achieve their goals.  I love helping athletes understand what they need to do to grow and enjoy seeing them embrace change and be rewarded as they improve in the pool."

Henry Oberley CLASS 2 COACH

Hi! I've been with rapids for a little more than 2 years, and have been coaching swimming for over 10. I have worked with swimmers of all ages and skill levels, across 4 different programs. I graduated in 2022 from Colorado School of Mines with a BS in mechanical engineering, and I now am a software engineer for a defense company in town. I swam all 4 years I was there for, and was team captain. While I was a club swimmer in highschool and before, I got to attend ISCA jr nationals and be a part of a record breaking relay in Virginia, whose record still stands to this day! (It's just a relay but it counts) I coach because I love to be on deck, and help the kids learn skills that are about more than just excellence in the pool.

Brooke Haight CLASS 1 COACH

Swimming has been my greatest passion for over 13 years, both as a competitive athlete and now as a dedicated coach. I've had the privilege of being part of the Rapids Swim Team for the past year, bringing my energy, personality, and experience to the pool. In addition to coaching with Rapids, I’ve worked with other swim programs, focusing primarily on early-age instruction. I enjoy teaching all strokes and fundamentals as well as helping swimmers discover their strengths across freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. I love fostering a fun, encouraging environment where young swimmers feel confident and excited to learn. Watching children build skills and find joy in the water is what makes coaching truly rewarding.
