Summer Meet Recap: Jr. Olympics

JO Recap Summer 2008: by Coach Terrell

First of all, thank you to all the volunteers and officials who helped make this year’s version of Junior Olympics the best yet!
Congratulations to all the PST swimmers who competed and helped lead PST to a top 6 finish. Plantation swimmers completed their great season with many best times and multiple new sectional cuts. Coming off her amazing Division II meet, Alejandra Cardozo continued to impress with a 17 second drop in her 400 Free and was also 7 for 8 in the best time category. Elad Fraiman also took a big chunk out of his 400 Free (21 seconds) and was 5 for 6 in the best time category, while teammate Alfred Maria was a perfect 7 for 7, including 7 second drops in the 200 Free and 100 Fly. Daniel Parkinson put on a show, with best times in 7 events, including a 5th place finish in the 50 Fly. Gabriel Perez-Silva just missed being a part of the 100% best times group by one second (he was 5 for 6). Danny Tucci recorded one of the biggest time drops on the team when he swam 56 seconds faster than his previous best in the 400 Free. Danny also achieved 85% best times. 12& Under Swimmer of the Month for the Junior Olympics belongs to Krissa Robinson. Krissa was 7 for 7 in the best time category, and was the PST 12& Under high point winner.
Not to be outshined, the 13& Over’s put on quite a show of their own. On his way to 100% best times, Diego Cabrera achieved a new sectional cut in the 400 Free, while teammate Alex Cianci had one of the races of the meet in winning the 200 Fly. Sivan Fraiman and Christine Garrido both achieved new sectional times in the 100 Back, while group mate Sergio Jacas dipped under the sectional standard in the 100 Breast. Matthew Williamson also achieved and new sectional standard in the 800 Free. In the running for performance of the meet, Michael Tucci dropped 8 seconds in the 200 Breast, narrowly missing the Junior National time standard. 13& Over Swimmer of the Month for Junior Olympics belongs to Dylan Marsolek who dipped under the sectional standard in the 200 and 400 Free. Dylan claimed victory in both of those events, and was PST 13& Over high point winner.
