USASwimming Votes to Restrict Certain Swimsuits for 12&Under Swimmers!

At the 2008 United States Aquatic Sports Convention in Atlanta, USA Swimming’s House of Delegates voted to restrict the use of certain "high tech" swimsuits for 12 & Under competition. The legislation will restrict swimmers ages 12 and younger from wearing suits of any material that extend past the knee cap, past the shoulder, or above the neck. The rule applies to swims contested in age group defined competition (i.e. 11-12 or 10& Under category). The legislation does not restrict the use of these suits for swims contested in an "Open" or "Senior" category allowing the few 12 year old swimmers who have advanced to the National level the opportunity to wear these suits in major national competitions such as the US Open or Junior Nationals. It is understood that this legislation will become effective on May 15, 2009.
