“Flashback and Fast Forward"

The PST Booster Club is proud to announce a 2009 College Scholarship Award is now available. The scholarship will be awarded to that “most deserving" high school graduate who best exemplifies the spirit and tradition of the Plantation Swim Team.

Eligibility:

All 2009 graduating high school seniors are eligible providing:

The swimmer is currently a registered, active member of the PST Team for a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months.

The swimmer is a team member in good standing and has a recommendation from his/her coach.

Essay:
Candidates will be required to submit an original, formal essay.

Deadline for Submission: June 22, 2009.
Flashback: The year is 1999. You are eight years old and have many decisions to make in the years ahead. Play sports; swimming, soccer, baseball/softball, basketball, tennis, golf or track and field. You could favor the arts; dance, singing or drama. There is math, science or history, chess club, debate, politics or community service. You could become a geek, a nerd or invent the next hot video game. You could even become a “Mall Rat" or couch potato.

Explain your choice to join a competition swim program and given the chance would you do it again?

Fast Forward: The year is 2009. You are now about to graduate from high school and enter the next phase of your life. Explain how your swimming career has affected you. Explore such factors as commitment, community and citizenship. Explain the concepts of motivation, leadership, discipline and “Team."

Finally, what words of advice can you share with those who are eight years old today and face the future as you once did?

ESSAY CRITERIA

1. All essays submitted should be typed and double spaced. Your essay is
expected to be between 1,000 and 1,500 words in length using standard essay
format. Yes, neatness, accuracy and spelling count.

2. No essays will be accepted after Monday, June 22, 2009.

3. Applicants must be a current member of the Plantation Swim Team in good standing
for a minimum of one consecutive year as determined by the coaching staff.

4. All entries will be screened for eligibility by the PST Booster Club Scholarship
Committee and eligible applicants will receive confirmation by E-mail.

5. Each essay will be reviewed and evaluated by the Scholarship Committee and
the 2009 winner will be announced at an upcoming date soon after the competition
closes.

6. The PST Scholarship Award is offered and will be granted solely for use toward the
cost of higher education.
