2009 USMS Long Course Nationals Update

This week two members of the Plantation Swim Team Masters traveled to Indianapolis for the 2009 USMS Long Course National Championships.  Check here throughout the weekend to see how Heidi and Coach Tom are doing!

Day 5:  Heidi Hester had the only swim on day 5, the 800 freestyle.  Competing in the final heat of the day Heidi clocked in at 9:46.50.  Not only did she win her age group, but she had the fastest time of any woman in the entire event.  Heidi finished the meet with a lifetime or masters lifetime best in all 5 of her events and she totaled 3 National Championships!  The 2 members of PST Masters finished the meet with a total of 76 points to place 37th out of a total of 114 club teams. 

 

Day 4:  After a day off (day 3 was all relays) Coach Tom had the lone swim for PST Masters on day 4.  He was able to manage a 1:01.90 in the 100 butterfly which was good enough for 5th place.  This concluded the meet for Coach Tom.  He finished with 5 lifetime bests in 5 swims and 1 National Championship!  Heidi will conclude the meet for PST with the 800 freestyle tomorrow evening.  Currently, PST has scored 65 points!

Day 2:  Things got off to another great start in the Women’s 400 freestyle.  Heidi clocked in at 4:42.95, a Masters lifetime best, which was good enough to take top honors in her age group.  Coach Tom kept things going by taking 4 seconds off his lifetime best in the 200 butterfly to finish 4th in 2:24.32.  He also turned in another strong swim with another lifetime best of 1:07.67 in the 100 backstroke to place 6th.  Heidi again finished the day off with a lifetime best swim of 1:02.43 in the 100 freestyle that put her in 4th place.  After two days of competition they have scored 59 points and won 3 National Championships!  The team has a day off on Saturday.  Check back Sunday evening for more updates.

 

Day 1:  Coach Tom started things off with a bang by posting a personal best time of 27.61 in the 50 fly which was good enough to place 10th.  He followed that up by touching in 2:26.70, another personal best, to win his age group in the 200 backstroke by over 7 seconds!  Not to be outdone, Heidi Hester clocked in at a lifetime best 2:40.82 to place 5th in the 200 backstroke then closed out the day with a Masters lifetime best of 2:12.13 to win her age group in the 200 freestyle.  After Day 1 they have accumulated 29 points and brought home 2 national championships!!!
