Confidence and Self-Esteem -

Organized sports are a highly debatable subject. Poor sportsmanship, injuries, and impossible parental expectations are a few reasons why some kids do not want to play sports. Organized sports that are played in a positive environment can be helpful to kids.
On average, kids who play sports do better in school. Kids are less likely to get themselves into trouble. Here are five reasons why kids should be encouraged to participate in organized sports.
Get Fit and Stay Fit
Childhood obesity is a serious problem. Sports are an easy way for kids to get much needed physical activity. They can help out of shape kids get into shape and stay that way. It does not matter what age group or skill level a child falls into. There are programs for all ages and levels of athletes, from beginner to advanced levels. Check with local schools for athletics programs and youth programs.
Kids who excel in sports do not normally have low self-esteem because they get the
positive reinforcement that they need from sports. A child does not have to be the best player to get the needed boost to his self-esteem. Just being told that he is doing a good job may be all that he needs.
Develop a Competitive Edge
Being competitive is a characteristic that children can use for the rest of their lives. Sports can help them to learn how to be competitive in a positive way. It is not about winning, but it is about how they play the game. Sports teach kids how to give their best every time, win or lose. A
competitive edge can be the driving force behind kids as they mature, pushing them to reach for goals that they would not have reached for before.
Strengthen and Renew the Parent/Child Bond
Busy lifestyles can lead to distance between kids and their parents. Sports provide a common ground for parents and their children to reconnect and spend time together. Sports are a place where kids can shine and their parents can be there to watch.
The bond can become even stronger when a parent takes part in the
coaching. Kids need individual attention. Sports give parents and their kids something to do that is focused entirely on the child. It makes a child feel important when his parents come to his games or competitions.
Keep It Positive and Let Them Play
Organized sports keep kids active and in shape. They teach children about healthy competition and socialization. Sports boost confidence levels and strengthen bonds between parents and kids. As long as parents and coaches do not become overzealous in their expectations, kids can thrive from participating in organized sports.
