Swimmers need to be responsible too!

 

SEA DRAGONS CODE OF HONOR

Sea Dragons Swimming has defined safety and personal conduct policies that help maintain the identity of the swim team and each of its members. These policies are to be upheld by swimmers, parents, and coaches at practice, meets, and outside of the Y.

Swimmers Conduct Policy:

· As a Sea Dragon, you make a commitment to your teammates and community. You demonstrate the commitment by giving your best effort at every practice and competition as well as encourage teammates to also give their best.

· Swimmers must demonstrate respect of all facilities, coaching staff and YMCA staff members.

· Coaches are in charge at practice and have full authority to decide what each swimmer should be doing. The coach in charge is responsible for enforcing discipline according to his/her judgment.

· Must adhere to the Devos-Blum Family YMCA’s conditions of membership.

· Obscene language and/or actions which embarrass or reflect poorly on the team, coaches,

 swimmers, parents, or community are strictly prohibited.

· Swimmer use of tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs is not tolerated

· Swimmers will present a positive attitude and approach to practice and competitions.

· Swimmers will practice healthy living habits which includes proper nutrition, sleep, and life-balance to encourage swimmer development.

· Swimmers must abide by the locker rooms rules that include (but not limited to): no food, keep the locker rooms neat by picking up and throwing out trash, respecting the privacy of others also using locker rooms, staying away from other’s belongings, no running or rough– housing, and keeping the noise level to a minimum.

· Swimmers are responsible for maintaining, taking care of, and cleaning up swimming equipment when not in use.

· At competitions, only team equipment is to be worn (i.e team suit, team cap, etc.)

Failure to comply with these policies will result in disciplinary actions as determined by the coaching team.

Rules of Discipline:

1. Coach will ask swimmer to sit out or leave for the day

2. Second time a swimmer is asked to leave will be considered grounds for suspension of up to 3 practices.

3. If asked to leave a 3rd time swimmer will be suspended for 7 practices or longer.

4. The coach will not argue with a swimmer. If a swimmer refuses to leave when requested or is asked to leave for a 4th time they will be suspended for 1 month or considered for permanent suspension.

5. Repeated tardiness or early departures are grounds for suspension up to 3 days, unless an appropriate reason is given to the coach by swimmers parents.

6. If a swimmer or parent does not understand the coach’s instructions or feels that they have been unfairly dealt with, they should:

1st discuss with the coach. 

2nd if not satisfied, refer the matter to the Aquatics Director and they will resolve the situation.
