Florida Swimming

The Celebration Cyclones Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Celebration Cyclones to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of his/her abilities. Our groups follow the swimmer's stroke development progression, that embodies the mechanical, physical, and mental aspects of competitive swimming.

AGE GROUP (5 TO 14 YEARS OLD)

STORM CHASERS

This group is a bridge between swim lessons and competitive swim team. Designed for swimmers ages 5-10 to progressively develop all strokes. Swimmers will be taught proper posture, line and balance on all 4 strokes. It is also a great way to introduce young swimmers to the concept of year round swimming. Swimmers must have had some sort of swim lesson prior to trying out for the groups and must be comfortable in the water. The group is a 5 level program. Once a swimmers have completed level 5, they will be ready to move into the next group called Discovery 1.

Ages: 10 & under (11 in the 5th grade)

Duration: 45 Minutes - 2 day a week

Entry Skills: 25m (length of pool) freestyle stroke movement on stomach and 12.5m backstroke. Listening, taking direction, and willingness to learn are all factors. 

Meets: Mini Meets when they can swim 25 meters across

Equipment: Goggles, swim suit, and fins

 

DISCOVERY 1

This group offers an introduction to competitive swimming that encompasses ages 6 – 10 years old, all are beginners and have a very basic knowledge of the four competitive strokes. An emphasis is placed on the basic stroke development and stroke technique. Swimmers also learn to improve start technique and perform the proper turns. They are encouraged to participate in other sports if they desire to. Coaching emphasis is on correct strokes and not distance. Swimmers have fun with swimming games and drills. They also must be at least 6 years of age to be in this group, and have to have the skills taught and learned in StormChasers. Swimmers can still compete at the developmental mini-meets and with the direction of the coach, compete at the United States Sanctioned Meets. 

Ages: 10 & Under (11 in the 5th grade)

Duration: 1 Hour-3 days a week 

Entry Skills: 50 Free, 50 Back, 50 Breast, 25 Butterfly. 

Meets: Mini Meets, and 1 day USS Meets

Equipment: Goggles, proper training swim suit (no bikinis or board shorts), front mounted jr. snorkel, fins and a jr kickboard

 

TORNADO

This group is an advanced group that takes the athlete's ability to use interval, endurance, and speed training to the next level, while still maintaining strong form and balance in the water. Swimmers will be introduced to goal setting and nutritional education and build upon their understanding of race strategy and dryland strength training. They may participate in other sports if they choose to. These swimmers are allowed to progress to the next level after aging into the Challenge group during the proper move up period.

Ages: 10 & Under (11 in the 5th grade)

Duration: 1.5 Hours-5 Days a week 

Entry Skills: 5 x 100 Free 2:00, 6 x 100 kick 2:15, 3 x 200 IM 4:00

Performance: Must have swum all the IMX events and accomplished a 10 & under "BB" Time

Meets: Full schedule USS Meets

Equipment: Goggles, training suit, front mounted snorkel, small (JR) pull bouy, fins and a jr kickboard

 

IMAGINATION

This group is for swimmers who want to improve their stroke technique and/or their conditioning level, but desire a more flexible training environment with less focus on required time commitments. This group's main goal is to teach proper stroke technique and learn how to start training for competitive swimming. This group encourages swimmers to compete in USS meets. Designed for Middle school aged swimmers.

Ages: 11-14

Duration: 1 Hour- 3 Days a week

Entry Skills: 50 Free, 50 Back, 50 Breast and 25 Butterfly with proper turns. They must be comfortable wearing a front mounted snorkel and understand how to scull properly. Must be USS Racing start certified.

Meets: Mini Meets, and USS 2 Day Meets

Equipment: Goggles, training suit, front mounted snorkel, pull bouy, fins and a kickboard

 

TYPHOON

This group is designed for advanced age group swimmers who have developed firm basic swimming proficiencies in all four strokes and area ready to make more of a commitment to the sport. A desire to improve and the willingness to take the steps necessary for competitive progress are expected. Proper stroke technique is emphasized along with speed work, interval training, and aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, along with dry land and stretching, race planning, nutrition, mental attitude, video stroke analysis, and swimmer-coach conferences on goal setting and individual training progressions. These swimmers are willing to train at a higher level than before in order to achieve goals such as achieving 13-14 Florida Age Group Championships (FLAGS), Florida Senior Championships, Southern Sectionals, Zone Championships, and National Age Group Top 10 times.   

Ages: 11-14

Duration: 1.5 Hours-5 Days a week

Entry Skills: Timed 1,000 Free under 15:00; 8 x 100 Kick 1:45; 8 x 200 IM 3:15. Swimmers should be able to underwater dolphin kick past the flags. Must be Racing Start Certified; Should know what a “drop down” is; Must leave 5 seconds apart; Can execute a proper relay takeover.

Performance: Must have swum 13-14 IMX Events, and have two 13-14 “BB” time in a distance of 100 or longer.

Meet: Full schedule USS Meets

Equipment: Goggles, swim cap, kickboard, front mounted snorkel, long fins, training swim suits, appropriate sized paddles & pull buoy. Optional: tempo trainers, breaststroke paddles, and anti-paddles


SENIOR GROUPS (14 YEARS OLD AND OLDER)

CYCLONE 

This training group is designed for high school swimmers who are experienced and proficient, qualify for the Florida LSC Championships, USA Swimming Sectionals, and beyond. Coaching equally emphasizes conditioning and fundamentals offering the determined swimmer an excellent opportunity to improve rapidly. Athletes will compete in local Florida Swimming events, CCST hosted events, and travel meets. Selection to this group is based on but not limited to talent, work ethic, and the desire to train. 

Ages: 14-18 High School

Duration: 2 Hours-6 days a week (must attend at least 3 workouts a week)

Entry Skills: Timed 1,000 13:20; 8 x 100 Kick 1:50; 6 x 200 IM 3:15 with proper turns. Swimmers should be able to underwater dolphin kick past the flags. Must be Racing Start Certified; Should know what a “drop down” is; Must leave 5 seconds apart; Can execute an advanced relay takeover.

Performance: Completed 13-14 IMR requirement. Must have two 13-14 “A” time in a distance of 100 or longer and swam the 500 at a meet.

Meets: Full schedule USS Meets

Equipment: Goggles, swim cap, kickboard, front mounted snorkel, long fins, training swim suits, appropriate sized paddles & pull buoy. Optional: tempo trainers, breaststroke paddles, anti-paddles

 

CAT 5

This group is designed to prepare athletes for competition in Senior Championships, Sectional, Junior Nationals, and other selected meets.  Selection to this group is by invitation only and is based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, talent, work ethic, a desire to train and compete at this level, attendance, and a commitment to personal and team excellence.  Swimmers who meet the prerequisites and choose to enter this group will be presented with a challenging training program geared towards future success. All high school Juniors and Seniors will be encouraged to continue swimming in college.

Ages: 13 & UP 

Duration: 1.5 Hours-5 days a week (must attend at least 2 workouts a week)

Entry Skills: Timed 1,000 12:30; 8 x 100 Kick 1:40; 6 x 200 IM 2:45 with proper turns. Swimmers should be able to underwater dolphin kick to at least the 10 meter mark.

Performance: Completed 13-18 IMR requirement. Must have two SR CHAMP standards in distances 100+t.

Meets: Full schedule USS Meets

Equipment: Goggles, swim cap, kickboard, front mounted snorkel, long fins, training swim suits, appropriate sized paddles & pull buoy. Optional: tempo trainers, breaststroke paddles, anti-paddles
