Berkeley Barracudas General Parent Rules

Swim Meets

  1. Parents must volunteer for at least one session at events we host. We encourage everyone to volunteer for as many sessions as possible.
  2. Parents must abide by all general meet rules as determined by USA Swimming and Safe Sport. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Staying away from the blocks
    • Not taking photos/videos behind the blocks
    • Not talking to coaches during the meets
    • Not sitting with the team (at a minimum, this applies at the Berkeley pool; other pool locations may have different rules regarding athlete accessibility).
  3. Do not criticize or interrupt the officials during a meet; this applies to both home and away swim meets. We are representatives of Berkeley, and we expect all parents and swimmers to uphold these standards.

Practice

  1. During practice, parents are invited to sit in the large bleachers or in the chairs under the canopy by the diving well. Under no circumstances are parents to be behind the blocks during practice (or at the small bleachers when swimmers are starting from that end).
  2. Parents should not interrupt practice to talk to coaches about their specific swimmer. Coaches are responsible for many swimmers during practice, and their focus should be on all of them. If you need to talk to a coach, please wait until after practice. Even better, send the coach an email or text message before practice to let them know you have something to discuss. The only exception is if the coach approaches you first.
