Brian Bennett
Program Director/ Head Swim Coach/ Head Triathlon Coach
Coach Bennett has worked as the head coach and aquatics director of Gallaudet University since 2022. His total swim instructor and coaching experience amasses 9 years in various environments, from infant classes, youth swim teams, college swim teams, and adults new to swimming. In 2019, Brian was honored to receive national recognition as Safe Splash's Best Swim Instructor of the Year.
Coach Bennett was a member of the United States Deaf Swimming team, where he represented his country in 2009 and 2011. He was also inducted into the Gallaudet University Hall of Fame for holding several swimming records. Now that he's no longer a competitive swimmer, he spends his time training for Ironman-distance Triathlons.
Mara Land
Assistant Program Director/ Swim Instructor/ Lifeguard
Mara, originally from a small town in South Dakota, has been a swim instructor for 8 years. A recent graduate of Gallaudet University with a BA in Communications, they competed on the university swim team as well as on the inaugural women's triathlon team. Now the assistant coach of the University's swim team, Mara is still an avid swimmer. A fun fact about Mara is that they have worked at a couple of conservation corps in various positions for the past 4 summers.
Sannya Woodyard
Manager on Deck
Sannya, a senior from Sacramento, California, is majoring in psychology. She recently participated in Gallaudet's flag football team, which went on to win every game and is the national champion! Her hobbies include painting outside at the park, building Legos, and playing video games on Nintendo Wii. A fun fact about Sannya is that she dyed her hair all the colors of the rainbow in just one year.
Ashley Corcoran
Swim Instructor/ Lifeguard
Ashley, a senior from Broussard, LA, is majoring in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Public Health, and is a very active athlete on both the swim and triathlon teams. Her hobbies include running and learning anything relating to biology. A fun fact about Ashley is that she competed in her first half Iron Man 70.3 this past June!
Alecia Miller
Swim Instructor
Alecia is a first-year graduate student majoring in Deaf Studies. From Litchfield, IL, she is in her second season on the triathlon team, second season on the stunt team, and third season on the cheer team.
Adelle Patton
Swim Instructor
Adelle is a freshman undergraduate student from Puyallup, WA. A rookie on the swim and triathlon teams, Adelle is enthusiastic about swimming. A former instructor through the Goldfish academy, she brings two years of previous experience to our program.
Allen Davis
Swim Instructor/ Manager on Deck
Allen is a sophomore majoring in Education. From Port St. Lucie, FL, he is a second-year athlete on both the swim team and the cross country team. This is his first season as an instructor, but he brings his knowledge of childhood education with him to each class.
Alex Wilding
Swim Instructor/ Lifeguard
Alex, a freshman from Santa Fe, NM, is majoring in Education. He is a second-year swimmer on the swim team, as well as a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. A fun fact about Alex is that he has dyed his hair over 100 times!
Thea Wrenn
Swim Instructor/ Lifeguard
Thea is a second-year graduate student, majoring in Deaf Studies. From Anchorage, AK, Thea is an avid swimmer and triathlete. She is the assistant coach of the Triathlon team as well as the swim team.
Molly Headrick
Substitute Swim Instructor
Molly is now embarking on her second year of grad school. She brings a wealth of experience, as this is her second year of teaching swim lessons. Originally from Southern California, Molly finds solace in swimming and outdoor activities during her downtime. Her hobbies include traveling, photography, and unwinding whenever she can.
