Our Coaches
| Nothing has a greater influence on the quality of children’s sports than the excellence of the coach. The Gilroy Gator Swim Team coaching staff is made up of professionally trained coaches. They, as member coaches in the American Swim Coaches Association, have access to the most comprehensive training and certification program for youth coaches of any sport in the United States. Our coaching staff will ensure that your swimmer, regardless of ability level, will receive the very best the sport has to offer. If you ever have any questions or concerns your swimmer's coach is available to you before and after each practice as well as by phone or email. We ask you to please hold questions for these available times to keep from interrupting the learning of other swimmers during their practice. |
| Welcome Gilroy Gators! I am proud to be your Head Coach. A bit about myself...I began competitively swimming at age 10. My first meet was in Redding, CA. in a non-heated pool. My record as an age group swimmer was in the 100-yard Butterfly. I joined SCSC in 1961 and swam under George Haines. I earned an athletic scholarship to U of Oregon. I swam varsity for 4 years. I began coaching at Monte Vista Christian in 12'. I coached for Monte Vista Christian School (MVCS) for 3 years where my daughter attended. I joined San Benito Aquatics (SBA) and coached beginning in 14'. I became head coach in 15'. My coaching philosophy is simple. I want my swimmers engaged, teach correct technique, be a role model and mentor. Coaches impact the lives of our youth because of the nature of the sport with the need to focus, to pay attention, and follow instructions. A unique experience for kids different from teachers and parents. My goal is to create a positive environment where swimmers can realize their potential and learn life lessons that will help them for the rest of their lives. I look forward to bringing out the best in performance and attitude and life skills in our young swimmers.
See you at the pool!

| In high school I dove for the diving team and traveled with the high school swim team to meets. It was there I experienced first hand the comraderie swimming instills. Since high school I have been in and out of swimming to get in shape. I became serious again about 20 years ago, getting back into Masters Swimming with the YMCA and then with the Gilroy Gators. I am inspired by my father, at 88, who still swims five days a week. As a low to zero impact sport it is something that can be done for your health for the rest of your life! I love most swimming early in the morning and feeling GREAT the rest of the day. I coached for the Gilroy Gators Masters swimmers from about 2013 until 2019. As a first time age group assistant coach I am thrilled to share my love and knowledge of the sport to the youth, learn from coach Jud, have fun and hopefully inspire others along the way! See you in the water!

Hi Masters, I'm happy to spend time with you in the water, swimming has been my longest sport, and am happy to share my 3 decades of experience with you. A bit about me, I have a 5 year old who is learning how to swim, and a 1.5 year old that is learning how to use her lungs. (very noisy). Like many who swim with us, getting better at swimming was always a struggle for me when I was younger, it took me a long time to get better, and now I cherish the time I get to spend in the pool and exercise my mind and body. I have been a long distance cyclist in the past, competitive swimmer for a globally recognized club, done charity events and everything from Archery, Badminton,... to Waterpolo. I focus on consistent incremental improvements, and minimizing injuries. I love chatting with everyone that swims with us, and even if you're shy, you should come by and say hi.
Sincerely,
Coach Paolo
