Coaches and Directors
Greg Gillette
joined ASL as Program Director in November of 2019. Since his
arrival, the club has grown from 130 athletes to over 250 athletes,
and ASL has quickly risen in the State and National rankings.
Coach Greg is a firm believer in taking a methodic, patient
approach to developing athletes from the younger ages into the
senior levels of the sport. Throughout this process, the ownership
of the sport is transferred from the parents/coaches to the
athletes, to create an athlete focused, athlete driven environment.
He also strives to make sure each athlete has options in training
to have purposeful sessions that allow athletes to achieve the
goals they've set.
He comes to Augusta after five years working with Bluefish Swim
Club in New England, and stops in Los Angeles, Seattle and Chicago,
where he's worked with numerous athletes and coaches who've reached
the highest levels of this sport.
He is looking forward to another season of growth, development and
achievement in 2023-2024!!!
Evan has been coaching with ASL since the Fall of 2019 and swam for the team during his middle and high school years. While on the team he qualified for Junior Nationals and Senior Nationals in multiple events. His success at ASL earned him a spot on the Men's Varsity Swim Team at the University of South Carolina’s. At USC he graduated with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Evan has coached many top ten 12 and unders in the state of Georgia. He enjoys the process of swimmer development both mentally and physically, but most importantly wants his swimmers to love the sport. Passing along his experience, in hopes to make the swimmers better, is something he is passionate about.
Outside of swimming he is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys staying active!
A former competitive swimmer, Lance proudly represented the Bahamas on the international stage. Unfortunately, his swimming career was cut short due to injury, but his passion for the sport never waned. These days, he finds fulfillment in coaching and helping young athletes develop their swimming abilities.
Lance's dedication, patience, and ability to motivate others shine through in his coaching. He's committed to nurturing the next generation of swimmers, instilling important values like discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in his athletes.
Beyond coaching, Lance remains deeply involved in the swimming community. He competes at Masters events, and stays up-to-date with the latest developments in the sport. His enthusiasm keeps him connected to the water, even when he's not on the pool deck.
Lance's life extends beyond the lanes. He's a devoted family man, happily married to his wonderful wife, Adrienne. Their dynamic household includes two energetic sons who keep them on their toes, along with three equally lively dogs. Whether it's a weekend backpacking trip or a cozy evening at home, family time is precious to Lance.
Shannon has been coaching club and varsity swimming since August 2012, but has been swimming since she was three years old! She has coached varsity cross country for 4 years as well. Her favorite part of coaching is seeing the pride in the face of a swimmer who has just accomplished a goal. Shannon likes to motivate swimmers on an individual level by finding out what excites them and why they are swimming. She swam at East High School in Rochester, NY, where she earned MVP status for three years, and swam at SUNY Morrisville where she earned an Associates Degree. She has her Bachelors Degree in Psychology and spent more than 12 years working with families in crisis doing Family Based in-home therapy.
When she's out of the pool, Shannon enjoys triathlons, marathons, relaxing with a good book and has the most fun with her husband Matthew, son Conner and daughter Lena.
Noah joined ASL in 2022 after coaching for five years in Southern California. He believes in a patient approach to an athlete's long term development through skill mastery, goal setting, and ownership of sport. Noah believes in teaching "the why" in his methods as well as how to do them properly. He looks forward to an exciting year full of fast swimming and great accomplishments!
Besides his swim coaching career, Noah has held multiple internships as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for different athletic teams. While swimmers are his favorite group of athletes, Noah has worked with Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball, Baseball and Water Polo programs. He has also been a mechanical engineer and has had the opportunity to travel across the United States because of his work.
Hello! I am Coach Conner, I have been coaching for ASL for about 2 years now. I have been swimming for ten years and swam on the varisty team for three years at my high school in Pennsylvania and one year at North Augusta High School.
My coaching experience consists of 2 seasons coaching summer swim for Hammond Hill Swim Team and prior to that, giving one-on-one lessons at my old school.
My goals for this season are for the kids to have fun at practice everyday and for them to become the best they possibly can. Coaching my Shark kids has been a blessing and I'm excited for the many more kids I get to coach.
Coach Melanie has been a member of the Augusta swimming community for her entire life! She started swimming with the Montclair Makos in the CSRA Swim League at age 7, later competing for the Fort Gordon Swim Team and Westside High School. Since she was in high school she has worked her way up the swimming safety chain from lifeguard, to water safety and lifeguard instructor, all the way up to training lifeguard and water safety instructors themselves! She has also taught swim lessons, coached a local summer league team and even coached for ASL in the early 2000’s. In her "non-swimming life" she has worked as an EMT, in EMS dispatch and as a medical assistant. Coach Melanie is extremely excited to return to coaching for ASL this season, because one of her favorite things is seeing the big smiles on kids’ faces when they master a swimming skill they’ve been struggling with. She looks forward to helping ASL's newest swimmers crush their goals and celebrate their improvement.

Coach Justin grew up in Charleston, SC and has stories from family is that he has been a fish in water since he was a baby. Justin started his swimming career with the Y.M.C.A in Summerville, SC to where he found his passion with competitive swimming at 11 years old. Soon after he joined the year around swim clubs of City of Charleston Swim Team (C.C.S.T) and then later became a member of Man of War (MOW) swim club while in high school.
Justin was the 1 st club swimmer to become an athletic letterman at Stratford High School by meeting all the requirements set forth by the high school largely due to his achievements around distance events of the 500 free, 800 free, 200 free relay, and the mile.
Justin currently lives in Aiken, SC with his wife Leslie and three children Kaylee (18) who is currently a freshman at Clemson University, Coleman (10) who joined ASL this year, and Leah Kate (9) who also joined ASL this year.
Along with Coach Justin’s swimming experience, he has been the head coach for the Woodside Swim Team for the past 3 years in Aiken, SC. His leadership with supporting assistant coaches helped the WST Dolphins to a championship turn around this past year in the CSRA. Justin has helped coach summer league teams from Charleston, SC to Aiken, SC to where his daily focus was to not only to help individual swimmers achieve their personal goals but to also incorporate a team atmosphere that included integrity and responsibility of oneself by leaving everything out in the pool. Do not be surprised if swimmers come home with some of coaches catch phrases that are focused on making our swimmers better and preparing them for the next level of swimming.
