2024-25 Short Course Season
Greetings,
I hope everyone is (still) enjoying summer. I see the leaves on the trees are starting to turn, meaning it's just about time for the short course season. SWIMS o the USA Swimming website should be up to date to please check your credentials and registration (remember they are two separate items - credentials for your officials certifications and registration for your non-athlete membership). Both have to be current for you to officiate on deck. If you are an apprentice official - check the expiration date (only valid for 60 days). If it has expired, you must register as a non-athlete member and complete your BGC, APT, and CPT to continue apprenticing on deck. Also check your lsc certifications on the officials website (under Iowa Officials Status).
Meet signups for the short course season are starting to be uploaded onto the officials website. We are planning three Officials Qualifying Meets for national certification this season - the IFly Mid-West challenge in November, the Skywalk challenge in January, and the short course championships at the end of February. Remember that there are requirements for being evaluated - especially about the number and types of sessions you must have completed beforehand. This information is available on the USA Swimming website (
here).
Signups for next year's Pro Series swim meets, Summer Open, and Summer Juniors will be posted on the USA Swimming website sometime next month. Sign up early if you're interested. The winter national meets fill pretty quickly.
These are my final days as the Iowa Officials' Committee chair. Bill Brown is the incoming chair (his email will be [email protected] as of Sunday). Thank you all for your past and future support of our athletes, the LSC, and USA Swimming, and I look forward to seeing you on deck over the next few months.
Cheers,
phil b.
