The Milan Aquatic Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of Milan Aquatics to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.
| Minnows Group Learn to Swim Program. Participants are taught water safety education. The program begins with basic skills such as getting comfortable in the water, blowing bubbles, floating on the back, and kicking. Program offers small class sizes (ratio is 3 to 1), experienced instructors, and a supportive atmosphere to ensure that participants feel comfortable and motivated. The overall goal is to help participants develop lifelong swimming skills, enjoy water activities safely, and build self-confidence in the water.
Bronze Group This is our entry level group for our beginning swimmers. An athlete needs to be able to swim the length of the pool to enter this group. This group focuses on building foundational swimming skills while introducing swimmers to basic techniques. Swimmers in this group should be comfortable in the water but may not have mastered stroke mechanics or endurance. This group is designed to help improve water confidence, coordination, and basic stroke technique. Silver Group From the Bronze group, athletes move into this group. Athletes must be able to swim a 200 IM without being disqualified to be in this group. Athletes in this group gained a solid foundation in the sport and are ready for more advanced technique and conditioning. Swimmers at this level are generally comfortable with freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Training at this level emphasizes building endurance, improving stroke mechanics, and increasing the intensity of workouts. Instruction includes improving starts, turns, and finishes, as well as developing speed and stamina over longer distances. Gold Group From the Silver group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group are usually at least 10 years old and have swam the 100 Freestyle in 1.14:99 or less. This group is exposed to training for the first time while trying to prepare for the 200 Freestyle and 200 Individual Medley races. Participants are experienced, skilled, and committed. Swimmers are refined with stroke technique, strong endurances, and competitive racing experience. Training components include technique work, endurance and speed, race pace training, strength and conditioning, and mental preparation.
Senior Group Entry into the group is up to the coach's discretion. Typically, this group will be for swimmers who are 13 or older and have made a commitment to train at a high level (both in the pool and dryland) and to attend USA meets. Participants are the most experienced, skilled, and committed swimmers. Practices may include multiple sessions per day, dryland strength training, and high yardage volume. Key Characteristics include skill level, training intensity, goals, and commitment.
