Becoming An Official

David Stephens

As we begin the Summer 2024 LC swim season and meets this weekend, please don't forget to promote "Becoming and Official" with your parents on deck!

The IL Officials Committee has created a recruiting brochure for use on deck! Post around the pool, prints and handout to your volunteers during your upcoming meets, post to your teams website or social media platforms! The more communication of the process, the better!

As a reminder, we've updated the Illinois Swimming Officials pages to reflect the new process for entry-level officials to become a Stroke & Turn official. The Stroke & Turn clinic is now run by USA Swimming and can be completed (2 online video sections) when convenient (the test is part of the second video). As a first step in the process and for additional help with the Stroke and Turn Clinic process, PLEASE go to the Training Information page under Officials on the Illinois Swimming website. Anybody taking the USA Swimming Stroke & Turn clinic MUST fill out the Google form on that page. For your convenience, here is the link to this form (https://forms.gle/aLrkUd5p4d3VbsmN6).

For new officials, please direct them to the Training Information page. So you know, we are not notified when somebody from Illinois Swimming takes the clinic, so filling out this information form allows us to put their certification into OTS and offer any other support an official may need to complete their certification. Please note that the form is being monitored by volunteers, so it may take a few days before we respond, but we WILL respond.

The Illinois Officials Committee would love to see the IL Officials numbers continue to increase. Officiating is a great way for parents and family members to "give back" to their athlete's teams and meet volunteer requirements! If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email!
