Jonathan was born naturally deaf and grew up in northern part of California. He started swimming at age 9 after trying different sports. Summer swim camp hooked him in and started year round swim club at age 10. Swam in Sierra College then Gallaudet University. Qualified for Deaflympic 2001. Attended Deaflympic 2005.
