Virtual Classes

We have implemented Zoom video conferencing to keep our artists on track with their regular dance training and future performance preparation.

We know kids will be going a little stir crazy at home during this time, which is why we have added more classes to keep them busy and assist with faster growth.

What if I have to miss a class?

Your absence must be excused prior to your scheduled class. You must receive a confirmation from email/text your absence has been excused.

  • How can I find the recorded Zoom classes? Only if your absense has been excused/ if you have not exceed the number of unexcused absences, will you have access to recordings. You will be emailed a link to access your recorded classes.

  • What is Zoom and how do I join my video conference classes? Zoom is a free video conferencing app. To get started, you will be emailed a link to join your Zoom class. When you click the link in the email, you will be redirected to download the Zoom app (works on phones, tablets, and computers). You can also check out their website here for more information and support if you have any technical difficulties.

  • Will we be able to interact with our classmates and teachers on Zoom? When you join the video class, all artists will be muted (so unfortunately you will not be able to chat with your friends). You will be able to see and hear the teacher, and see (but not hear) your friends, and the teacher can see all of the artists. If you have a question, the teacher will be able to un-mute artists individually.

  • How will class work? You will need to find a space at home that you can dance in with enough room to practice basic moves (we won’t be doing any steps that travel a lot). Wear what you would normally wear for dance class. Follow the link in your class invitation email and log in through the Zoom app.

    • Your teacher will begin with an introduction and explanation of how class will work that day.

    • General class format will vary depending on the class.

      • Younger classes - we will work our way through usual things we practice in class. Building basic skills and working on some creative dance and play.

      • Older classes - You will have a follow along warm up (or barre work minus the barre- chair is acceptable) as well as basic technique drills. We’ll be focusing on steps that mostly stay in one place, nothing that travels a lot.

    • Any choreography taught will be modified for small spaces.

Practicing at Home

We know that many families do not have an ideal space to practice at home, and we are keeping that in mind! All lessons will be designed to be done in a small area and on a variety of surfaces. Dancers will just need to do a little experimentation to find the best spot in their house and adjust their footwear as needed.

  • Dancing on carpet? That’s easier in shoes or socks

  • Dancing on slippery tile or wood? Going barefoot or wearing some sort of grippier shoe (hip hop, jazz, or even grippy socks) will work best.

  • If you have any other concerns, questions, or issues with practicing at home, contact us! 318-953-2339 or submit a message here.

  • We know it's not ideal, but challenging situations call for creative solutions. We are nothing if not a creative performing arts family!
