PWAC emphasizes long-term rather than short-term results. To accomplish this, it is important to establish training groups of swimmers compatible in ability, commitment level, and goals.
The emphasis in the early stages of participation must be placed on developing technical skills and a love for the sport. In the later years, a more demanding physical challenge will be introduced to the training program. At each level, the goals and objectives are specific and directed toward meeting the swimmer's needs. As each child is different, he/she will progress at his/her own pace. The coaching staff recognizes this and makes group assignments based on a swimmer's physical, mental, and emotional level of development.
Our beginner group, the Rookies, builds the foundation for developing the four competitive strokes. To join the Rookie group, swimmers must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) with their faces in the water without holding on to something. Swimmers should also be able to float on their back and kick for 25 yards. They do NOT need to breathe rhythmically or know breaststroke or butterfly. The rookies are learning the foundations of each stroke. From the Rookies, each subsequent training group builds off the previous group as the swimmer's ability and endurance grow.
Attached here is a list of regularly used terminology for swim practice sets, swimmers will become familiar with these through practice.
Once training begins, the coaches may consult parents to discuss changes in group assignments.
