Interested in trying out for UMLY Swim Team? Below are the evaluation dates for UMLY’s Swim Team for 2025-2026:

The evaluations are designed to assess each child's swimming ability and ensure they are placed in the appropriate group. This will help us create balanced and enjoyable practice groups where swimmers can thrive.

During the evaluation, each swimmer will:

Perform basic swimming skills, such as floating, kicking, and swimming across the pool.
Be assessed on stroke technique, endurance, and comfort in the water.
Receive feedback on areas for improvement.

Evaluations will last approximately 15 minutes with the Coaches and staff. Parents will need to fill out forms prior to being evaluated. We ask that Swimmers arrive on time, dressed in swimwear, and ready to swim. It’s also a good idea to bring goggles and a towel.

Expectations for Evaluation Day:

8 & Under: Must be able to swim a 50 Free and a 50 Back without stopping or hanging on lane lines/wall and pass the Y’s green wristband test. Swimmers will also be asked to demonstrate their Breaststroke and Butterfly skill by swimming a 25 of those strokes.
9-10 Year Olds: Must be able to swim a 50 of all four strokes. (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly) Swimmers need to swim across the pool without stopping or hanging on the lane lines/wall and pass the Y's green wristband test.
11 & Overs: Must be able to swim a 50 of all four strokes. (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly) Swimmers will also be asked to swim a 100 & 200 yard Freestyle. Swimmers need to swim across the pool without stopping or hanging on the lane lines/wall and pass the Y’s green wristband test.
