Lindsay Taggart Owner/Head Coach (6-18)

Lindsay (Swiderski) Taggart has been involved in the sport of swimming for the majority of her life.  Growing up, she swam competitively for Wilmington Aquatic Club where she achieve such accolades as state champion, high school state champion in the 200 and 500 freestyle, Delaware High School All-State swimmer, and Junior National qualifier.  Lindsay was awarded a NCAA Division 1 swimming scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, where she swam from 1994 to 1998.  During her freshman year, she placed 6th in the 500 freestyle and 5th in the 1650 free at the Big East Championships.  While at Pittsburgh, she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Child Psychology and her Master’s Degree in Teaching.  During her graduate school years, Lindsay coached part-time with Team Pittsburgh.  In 2004, she moved back to her home state and began both coaching and teaching for Team Delaware.  In 2008, she helped to re-develop Wilmington Aquatic Club in 2011.  Lindsay is certified in CPR/First Aid/Lifeguarding.

Alicia Caraballo Owner/Assistant Coach (13-18)

Alicia started swimming before she could even walk.  She competed in her first swim meet at 4 and never looked back.  Alicia grew up swimming for Wilmington Aquatic Club until her senior year when it turned into Swim Quest.  She attended Padua Academy where she was state champ in 50 free, 100 free, and 100 breast. She made All-State and All-Catholic for all 4 years in high school.  She qualified for Junior Nationals in the 100 breast and 500 free while swimming for WAC.  Alicia now is one of the owners of WAC and Swim School, Inc., where she teaches kids from learning to love the water and swim up to the higher levels of the competitive side of the sport. 

James Mauk Assistant Coach (13-18)

James has been a member of the WAC coaching staff since September 2019 and is the lead coach for the Elite group.

 

James started swimming at age 4 with Crestview Swim Club. He continued swimming competitvely for Silverside Swim Club, Brandywine YMCA, Delaware Swim Team, and Concord High School. In high school he swam under 2016 Olympic Team coach Bruce Gemmell, who worked with Olympians Katie Ledecky and Andrew Gemmell, and Sean Dougherty, who coach multiple Delaware High School Swimmers of the Year. James was a 4-time Delaware All-State team member and went on to swim Division 1 at Lehigh University. While at Lehigh, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Economics. He was a 4-time Patriot League finalist in the 200 back and 3-time finalist in the 1650 free.

 

James started coaching at Fair Blue Swim Club in 2016 growing the team to over 200 swimmers, winning the White division in 2017, and improving the team's finish from 10th place to 4th place in 2 years. James has coached people at all levels of the sport including 2 Delaware High School Swimmers of the Year, 1 2024 Olympic Trials Qualifier, 1 Summer Junior National Qualifiers, and 2 Winter Junior National Qualifiers. James is constantly learning about swimming and implements a hard-working, self-driven, positive, and fun environment to help all athletes acheive their goals. He strives to create better athletes and better people outside of the pool. James is certified in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR.

Chris Belair Assistant Coach (13-18)

Chris started coaching summer league in 1986 at the Graylyn Crest Swim Club in Wilmington, DE under Stan Arasim.  In the spring of the following year, Chris joined Stan at Team Delaware under head coach George Breen.  Chris would remain there for the next 17 years.  In his time at Team Delaware, he coached all levels of swimmers from 6 and under beginners to Olympic Trials qualifiers.  He has been a coach of several Middle Atlantic Zone All-Star teams and participated on the Middle Atlantice Swimming Age Group Committee.  He continued to learn under Bob Clemmer and briefly held the title of Associate Head Coach at Team Delaware.  Chris stepped down from full-time coaching to part-time to teach in the Brandywine School District where he teaches Social Studies at Concord High School.  Later, Chris joined John Pierson as an assistant coach of the BRY National Team where he helped build a top 10 national program.  In the later 2000s, Chris coached age groupers at DST where he was fortunate to spend deck time with Coach Bruce Gemmell who coach Olympians Andrew Gemmell (2012) and Katie Ledecky (2012/2016/2021).  Chris is constantly learning about swimming and experimenting with new techniques.  Over the years, he has developed a strong idea of how to develop athletes in a safe, efficient way that blends seamlessly with the philosophy of the Wilmington Aquatic Club.  

Chris Devlin Assistant Coach (9-18)

Started swimming at the age of 5 in the SSL.

- Joined Team Delaware at the age of 7.

- Was part of 3 State Championships while swimming high school at Salesianum.

- 3 Time first Team All-State Selection in high school. 

- Qualified for U.S. Junior Nationals in the 100 and 200 yard fly.  Also swam in 3 relays. 

- Swam for St. Bonaventure University in college. 

-Won a Atlantic 10 conference championship and was selected to the all conference team in 1999. 

Megan Connell Assistant Coach (6-12)

Meg started competitive swimming when she was 11 years old for Team Delaware. She continued to swim for a variety of club and high school teams. During her time at Padua Academy, she was a part of the state record-breaking 200 freestyle relay. Attended Division I American University. While in college she began teaching and coaching at local swim clubs. Over the last two decades has taught and coached at a variety of area programs. 

Abby Thomson Dryland/Assistant Coach (9-18)

Abby began competitive year-round swimming at the age of 8, participating on several club swim teams in the Lehigh Valley, PA area including: Atlantis Aquatic Club, Parkland Aquatic Club - under the coaching of Erik Posegay who was named USA Swimming's National Junior Team Director in 2022, and Emmaus Aquatic Club - during which, she gained experience teaching both group and individual swim lessons. As a club swimmer, she was part of the 2008 MA Zones team and won the 200 LCM free at an international meet hosted by Fort Lauderdale Aquatics. Through high school, she competed for Moravian Academy from 2010-2014, but trained 2 years of high school independently. She was the first person from her high school to win at PIAA District 11 Championships, qualify for multiple A Finals at PIAA 2A States, and set several school records as she specialized in the 200 and 500 free. From 2014-2018, Abby swam Division I at Lehigh University where she placed top 16 in the 500 free, 1650 free, and 400 IM at 2016-2018 Patriot League Championships. While at Lehigh University, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Clinical and Behavioral Health, as well as a minor in Health, Medicine, and Society. In 2021, she obtained her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from DeSales University and began practicing as a clinical physical therapist at Elite PT LLC in December 2021.

Aleecia King Assistant Coach (6-12)
Coach Aleecia King comes to WAC with over 10 years of coaching experience at the Western YMCA. A lifelong swimmer, she has competed since the age of five and brings both passion and knowledge to the pool. Aleecia is a 2012 graduate of the University of Delaware, where she earned her degree in Health and Physical Education, and later completed her Master’s in Instruction with a concentration in Teaching & Learning from Wilmington University.

She currently teaches Health and PE full time at H.B. DuPont Middle School, where she also coaches girls’ volleyball, and serves as the head swim coach and pool manager for Thomas McKean High School. Aleecia is thrilled to join the WAC coaching staff and looks forward to sharing her love of swimming with the team.

Eric Mattson Assistant Coach (9-18)

Eric Mattson, son of Nancy and Bob Mattson founders of Wilmington Aquatic Club, has been a Sea Tiger since birth.  He started his competitive swimming career at the age of 2 and continued swimming for WAC until the age of 24.  As a senior in high school, Eric was the 100 yard backstroke state champion and placed 9th in the 400 IM at Junior Nationals.  He received a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, where he competed all 4 years.  For the Panthers, Eric was a 3 time Big East champion in the 400 IM and was named to the first team All Big East conference all 4 years.  In the summer after his senior year, Eric was 15th in the “Around the Isle” swim in Atlantic City, labeled the “Worlds Toughest Swim” which is mapped at over 25 miles; he completed the race in 9 hours and 15 minutes.  Eric coached for WAC for 3 years after college and then other teams over the next 25 years.  He returned home to the Sea Tiger to coach again in April 2017.
