HEAT Swim Team Information Winter 25/26

HEAT (Hudsonville Eagle Aquatics Team) welcomes swimmers of all abilities to our age group competitive team. With four distinct levels, we cater to a wide range of skill sets. Winter practices are 3-5 days per week, and meets are on Friday Evening or Saturday Morning. Your registration includes at least 3 dual meets and a championship meet. Additional competitive opportunities,such as invitationals and USA Swimming, are available for an extra cost.

Swimmers with Previous HEAT Experience

Register for the same Level you participated in last season. If you wish to advance to a higher Heat Level, please contact your previous coach or the Aquatics Director for more information.

Swimmers New to HEAT

New swimmers must attend Evaluation Night on Monday, November 17 at 5:00 p.m.
Please arrive dressed in your suit and ready to swim. This will be a practice-style evaluation lasting approximately 25–30 minutes.

If you are currently enrolled in the Fall Heat Stroke School, your placement will be shared by your instructor after the third class—please do not attend evaluations.

Plan to be on deck at the HHS Instructional Pool (5237 32nd Ave, Door A10) and ready to swim by 5:00 p.m.

Evaluation results will be posted by Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

A winter calender will be provided by November 19th with practice times, meet times and meet locations.
Please note: there will be occasional non practice dates due to home middle school and high school swim meets.. During the holiday break, there will be no swimming from December 22–January 1, USA swim practices will be sent out by the head coach for those two weeks.

 

HEAT Swim Levels

 


 

White Group – Novice (Ages 12 & Under)

Cost: $235 or $170 with 10 volunteer hours
Season: December 1 – February 12
Practice Days: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday  Location: Instructional Pool (5037 32nd Ave)
Times:
Group 1: 5:15–6:00 p.m. (24 swimmers)  Group 2: 6:00–6:45 p.m. (24 swimmers)
Meets: Friday evenings or Saturday mornings. WMSL meets are included in team fees starting in January. Invitational meets prior to January 1 may be added at an additional per-event cost.

Description:
White Group swimmers are learning the fundamentals of competitive swimming. They will develop all four competitive strokes, work on starts and flip turns, and practice proper breathing techniques.

Requirements:

Attend at least 2 practices per week, Encourage participation in at least one WMSL meet, Encourage participation in the WMSL Championship meet, Swim 50 yards freestyle unassisted, Follow directions and maintain focus during practice, Swim backstroke and freestyle legally for 25 yards (10 & under) or 50 yards (11 & older)
 

Blue Group – Intermediate (Ages 9–14)

Cost: $245 or $180 with 10 volunteer hours
Season: December 1 – February 12
Practice Days: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
Time: 6:00–7:10 p.m.
Location: Competition Pool (3370 Allen St)

Meets:
Friday evenings or Saturday mornings. WMSL meets are included in team fees starting in January. Invitational meets prior to January 1 may be added at an additional per-event cost.

Description:
The Blue Group is designed for swimmers in 8th grade and below. This group refines stroke technique, builds endurance, and introduces interval training. The focus is on progressing from the White Group to the Maize Group.

Requirements:

Attend at least 70% of practices, Attend at least one WMSL meet, Attend the WMSL Championship meet, Demonstrate knowledge of all four strokes, Follow sets and instructions from the coach, Practice proper breathing techniques, starts, and flip turns

Maize Group – Experienced (Ages 9–14)

Cost: $260 or $190 with 10 volunteer hours
Season: December 1 – February 12
Practice Days: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
Time: 5:15–6:45 p.m.
Location: Competition Pool (3370 Allen St)

Meets:
Friday evenings or Saturday mornings. WMSL meets are included in team fees starting in January. Invitational meets prior to January 1 may be added at an additional per-event cost.

Description:
The Maize Group is for swimmers (ages 9–14, grades 8 and below) who have participated in USA Swimming or are seeking a more competitive experience. Training focuses on advanced technique, endurance, and race preparation.

Requirements:

Attend 3–4 practices weekly (including dryland), maintaining at least 75% attendance, Must attend at least one WMSL meet, Must attend the WMSL A Championship meet, Demonstrate drill knowledge and proper form, Read and follow the pace clock and intervals, Perform a legal 100 IM (ages 11–12) or 200 IM (ages 13–14)
 

Senior Group – Advanced (Grades 9 & Above)

Cost: $280 or $200 with 10 volunteer hours
Season: December 1 – February 12
Practice Days: Monday–Friday
Time: 3:00–5:00 p.m.

Description:
The Senior Group is designed for swimmers in 9th grade and above, providing off-season training that complements varsity swimming. Swimmers are grouped by ability, goals, and commitment level.

Requirements: Maintain at least 75% attendance (including dryland), Must attend at least one WMSL meet Must attend the WMSL A Championship meet, Demonstrate solid drill knowledge, Understand interval timing, Perform a legal 200 IM
 


 

USA Swimming (Travel Group)

Additional Training times may include: Wednesday evenings, Non-meet Fridays

Fees:
A USA Swimming membership (paid directly to USA Swimming) is required, along with per-event meet entry fees.

Description:
USA Swimming provides opportunities for additional practices and higher-level competition. Swimmers gain valuable experience in both training and meets, with opportunities for travel ranging from local to regional competitions.

Please Note:

USA Swimming participation is optional.

Out-of-state championship meet costs will be shared among participating swimmers (including meet fees, coaches’ lodging, and transportation).

USA registration fees cover only USA-related costs.

Swimmers must still register for their assigned HEAT Level to participate in HEAT practices and meets.

Additional per-event fees apply for USA meets.
