| Creating a Positive Attitude with a Massive Effort Mindset is taught. Teaching to learn how to give a Best Effort will be reinforced. Growth Mindset, understanding failure, how to use failure as a step for success wll be a base learning tool. Helping swimmers understand the massive benefits of Positive Self-Talk will be reinforced. |
Swimmers will learn the correlation of time spent on task and how that works into performance. Understanding the repetition of skills and learning those skills is in direct relation to performance. The development of understanding the Process is the most important part of any Goal is introduced at this level. Understanding, using a Growth Mindset w/ Positive Self Talk is emphasized. |
Process Vs. Product is taught at this level. Having the swimmer understand that the everyday work and skill development will be the most important part of their growth in swimming is introduced. Teaching long term gratification, not what is on the scoreboard as success is also taught. |
Understanding the physiology and training concepts are affected by growth/maturation. Know 'why' they are swimming and understand that long term gratification in the Process creates long term success. Swimmer knows what meets they want to focus on performance Vs. skill development. |
Group/Athletes will determine the events and meets they will focus their training and development. Understanding that the Championship Meet Mindset is a Process and all training, mentally, physically, emotionally is focused on End of Season Championships.Group dynamics will teach Team Culture, building confidence and have long term swimming plan. Swimmers are working skills to advance to USA/HS State, Sectional meets by learning advanced technique, wall work and other criteria for high level swimming. Advanced racing/competition plans will be introduced and implemented. |

| Swimmers must be able to complete one length of the pool Freestyle and Backstroke without stopping. Rhythmic breathing basics are also required. Swimmers will learn the four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly). Emphasis is on the basic skills necessary, for example, pushing off wall front/back into a streamline position. Learning all four competitive strokes and be proficient in kicking those strokes. Somersaults/Turns will be introduced as well as learning to jump, push and start off wall/deck/blocks. |
Swimmers will be introduced to basic swimming sets and practices. All strokes will be advanced as well as turns & starts for all races will be refined. Training and conditioning will take place, but emphasis is on mastering all four strokes. Clock reading, set counting and progression of a practice will also be taught. Underwater dolphin kicking will be introduced. |
Swimmers in this group must have the ability to read the pace clock and understand a practice layout. Swimmers will understand how a practice and practice Cycles are set up to build high performance at certain meets during the season. |
Swimmers advancing into this group will be working to build technique, training sets, introducing volume, intensity of overload. Working on advancing stroke skills/technique, turns/starts and learning how training overload/adaptation are necessary for swimming success. Understanding sets, training progressions, technical stroke improvement will be taught. This Group is to teach skills needed and as a transitional Group for Lightning/High Performance |
Practice to train for success and are looking to qualify for Regional/State/National level competitions. Swimmers in this group have learned set/practice/training processes and how they are used to gain performance for in season and Championship competitions. Learning best swims are in Championship/End of Season performances. |
Higher race strategy, swim meet planning will be taught. A TEAM/Growth Mindset will be nutured. Group will have dryland opportunities as well as double practices when warranted. Swimmers in the group are focused, committed in training for the highest competitions. Swimmers will participate in the highest competition qualified for each Season. Meet schedule will be such to gain the highest competition for Goals. |
| Swim meets will be offered and used for developmental purposes, teach fun. Swimming events for success and fun will be the priority. Practice sessions are 45 minutes in length and offered 3 times per week. |
Although working towards a Q1 or Q2 time is in the process, learning how to swim technically correct and understanding swimming practice/concept basics will be mastered. Swimming 100/200’s of all four strokes and be introduced to 500 Free/200IM are expected when viewed ready by Coaching Staff. Practice sessions are 75 minutes in length and offered up to 4 times per week. |
Regional/MAGS Q times are a base for this group Swimmers will understand how seasonal meets work to build to Championship meets. Swimmers in this group will continue to refine stroke and turn technique and while increasing their training while increasing technical ceiling. Swimmers in this group are expected to swim 50, 100 and 200 of all 4 strokes. As swimmers advance in this group, they will be introduced to swim the 400IM/500 Freestyle/1650/1500 Freestyle as viewed ready by Coaching Staff. Practice sessions are 1 ½ hour. 6 practices are offered, 4/6 are recommended. |
Advanced 12& Under/13 & Over Regional/MAGS Q times, HS swimmers needing more technique work. Main focus of Group is to build practice mindset, training capacity and mental readiness to train at higher volume, intensity. Building the transition to Senior Level Swimming. Technically build stroke, practice volume & how how to train a practice. |
Regional/MI State Q times are base for this group as is High School ConferenceParticipation. This is for the advanced age group and high school swimmers. This Group is for athletes that are preparing for HS and/or developing the next level skills for HP1. This Group will focus on refining and developing technique to handle higher training capacity. Understanding Seasonal development, planning and how training work increase in each cycle in these cycles. Meet participation is consistent with the intent of planning, training, performing the race plan at different points of season. |
This group is for State/National year-round swimmers who have multiple state, sectional and National qualifying standards and are working, motivated to reach upper-level Zone/National level competitions. The overall workload and expectations increase as athletes are exposed to more practice hours and endurance training. Meet/Event specificity training, workouts will take place with swimmers training for high performance at Championship competitions. Attendance is 5 out of 6 practices.
