South Lyon Aquatics offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of South Lyon Aquatics to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.
Developmental B Group (Beginner)
This group is for beginning swimmers primarily age 8 and under who can swim 1 length of the pool (25 yards) of freestyle and backstroke, both without stopping. The swimmer must be able to float, be comfortable in deep water and be able to swim freestyle without struggle. Swimmers will focus on learning the four competitive strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly) and also starts and turns. The basic skills will be taught including streamlines and technique work will be heavily focused.

WB Group
This group is for swimmers primarily aged 9-13 including intermediate younger swimmers, who need a challenging and productive atmosphere, and older age group swimmers that are looking for a “Non-competitive” structure. Swimmers should know all four strokes efficiently. Development of strokes while training will be emphasized.

Competition Group
This group is for intermediate level swimmers aged 9-13 who have mastered the basics in both technique and training principles. Continued work on proper stroke technique, endurance, and personal goal setting are key aspects of this groups training. These swimmers are encouraged to reach the State and Zone levels with long range goals to reach Sectional and National levels. State Level 12 and under swimmers are generally in this group. Dryland will be incorporated into the weekly practices.

Senior Group
This group is for advanced swimmers. Technique, endurance, goal setting and racing strategies are all developed and refined at this level. These swimmers aspire to reach State, Zone, Sectional, National and International qualifications. These are serious athletes, and train up to six days per week up to three hours each practice. Daily dryland training will be incorporated into the practices. State level 13 and over swimmers and beyond are generally in this group.

Flex Fins 2.0 - All practice groups will use fins. These can be ordered based on shoe size.
Catalyst Paddle - WB = XS or S Competition = S or M Senior = M, L, or XL
UltraliteSnorkel - All practice groups Dev. A and above will need this.
Kickboard - All swimmers should have the full size kick board, regardless of age or size.
Mesh Bag - These are for holding all practice gear. It makes transport to and from the pool easier.
