The DV Water Moccasins offer training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the DVWM to offer age specific training for all of our athletes, geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of their abilities. The winter age group team runs from mid November through March.
Requirements: Swimmers up to age 14, as of October 1. Team size is limited to 120 swimmers. Swimmers must sign up for a try out prior to acceptance on the team. Coaches will determine acceptance, and assign practice group placement based on the individual group criteria listed below. It is recommended that the swimmers attend at least 2 practices a week. Swimmers must attend at least 1 weekday practice in order to qualify for that weekend’s meet. Swimmers MUST attend 5 of the 8 swim meets during the regular season.
Please send us an email request for more information or to schedule a tryout and evaluation.
Boas Group
Workout Days/Times:M-TH 5:30-6:30
Pre-requisite Skills: Swimmers MUST swim 25 yards freestyle with face IN the water and float on the back while kicking proper flutter kick (NO fins or floatation devices.) Participants should be “Comfortable” in the water and not “struggle”. This is a competitive swim team and shall not be used as Swim Lessons.
Try-outs for new participants shall be used to determine if Swim Lessons are needed before placement on the team.
Objective: To teach basic competitive swimming skills and become proficient in the following: Freestyle and Backstroke. Starts and relay exchanges will be introduced.
Mambas Group
Workout Days/Times:M-TH 5:30-6:30
Description: The Mambas group is a Beginner/Intermediate placement designed to continue work on freestyle and backstroke with increasing distance and introduction to the breaststroke and butterfly.

Rattlesnakes Group
Workout Days/Times:M-TH 5:30-6:30
Description: The Rattlesnakes group is an Intermediate placement designed to teach balance and line, and to swim with strong “Head Down” kicking skills. We will work toward improving technique in all four strokes. Proper starts, turns and relay exchanges will also be a focus.
Objective: Swimmers will build on skills learned in previous groups. Swimmers will perform all four strokes “Legally.” Swimmers will learn drills to correct stroke, kick and breathing habits. Repetition of drills and proper swimming technique will be used to build “muscle memory” and to perform the stroke properly under stress. (Ex. Competitive racing).
Copperheads Group
Workout Days/Times:M-TH 6:30-8:30
Description: The Copperheads group is an intermediate placement. Participants will use drills to correct common swimming errors and learn techniques for improving speed. Streamlining, strong kicking and good body position in the water will be reinforced. Swimmers will increase their endurance by swimming more yardage per practice while focusing on correct technique for each stroke.
Objective: To swim proficiently and improve speed in all four strokes and develop higher work ethics and dedication to competitive swimming. Faster response timing will be introduced for starts and relay exchanges. Goal setting and a path to goal achievement will be enforced.
Pythons Group

Description:The Pythons group is designed to improve on skills learned in previous groups and increase endurance by swimming more yardage per practice while focusing on correct technique for each stroke. Dryland will be incorporated as an important tool for becoming stronger and more flexible athletes.
Objective: to learn how to set goals and achieve them. Build and maintain a strong work ethic.
Vipers Group
Workout Days/Times:M-TH 6:30-8:30
Description: Athletes entering the Vipers group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of. Stroke refinement is a small portion of the Vipers with the majority of the focus being on race training.
Objective: Training will include both aerobic and anaerobic style workouts with a major focus on Ultra-Short Race-Pace Training (swimming at race pace, with little rest). The only way to swim fast in a race is to practice swimming fast! Athletes in the Vipers group are directed towards meeting their (A) time standard listed in the National Age Group Motivational Times document. Competition in USA swim meets is recommended in this group. Vipers are expected to make at least 3 practices a week.
Evaluation Process:
An evaluation will be performed on each swimmer to determine placements as stated above in group criteria for each group, by the coach(es). A swimmer may be evaluated at any time during the season and can move from one group to another based on reaching their "BB" time standard, their evaluation, attitude, dedication, performance etc.… The evaluation will be discussed with the swimmer and the parents at a pre-arranged meeting. The meeting time and place will be emailed to the parent. (Please, do not contact the coach(es) via: email, text or phone calls.) The coach(es) will be happy to explain everything at the meeting.
