2025 Shock Wave at MHSAA State Championships

Shock Wave had an excellent showing this past weekend at MHSAA state championships. Here are some quick highlights from the weekend...

 

Class III

Tupelo High School

  • 100% of the athletes on the THS state roster have been a part of Shock Wave
  • Out of the 24 state qualified swimmers, 14 scored points
  • Boys - 7 / Girls - 7 Those 7 boys led Tupelo to reclaim the Class III title from Madison Central
  • Swimmers Colin, Isaiah, Mason, and HB broke a 9 year state record held by Tupelo in the 200 Medley Relay.
  • Those 7 girls got 2nd in Class III only losing to Madison Central

Stand Out swimmers

Boys Top 3

Colin Wright - 18 points scored

  • As of 10-20-2025, He is ranked top 25 nationally and Top 35 internationally for his class
  • Set 2 individual THS Team Records and 2 Team Relay Records with one of those individual records belonging to John Servati
  • Broke the MHSAA Class III and OPEN record by almost a full second in the 100 Backstroke
  • Posted best times in the 100 free and 100 backstroke and qualified for WInter Junior Nationals with his 100 backstroke time

HB Pannell - 16 Points scored

  • As of 10-20-2025, He is ranked top 5 state wide sitting at 4th
  • Senior Co-Team Captain
  • Set 2 Team Relay Records     
  • After transferring from TCPS, went on to win the 50 free and place 2nd in the 100 free posting best times in both swims

Mason Cordell - 7 points scored

  • As of 10-20-2025, He is ranked top 3 state wide sitting at 2
  • Senior Co-Team Captain
  • A part of 3 team relays and Set 2 Team Relay Records     
  • Placed 2nd in the 100 Fly posting a best time

 

Girls Top 3

Willa Martin - 16 points scored

  • As of 10-20-2025, She is ranked top 3 state wide sitting at 2 as a freshman in High School
  • Placed 1st in the 200 freestyle and 2nd in the 100 Butterfly
  • A part of 2 top 3 finishing relays and leading off the 200 Free relay with a best time in the 50 free

 

Sarah Potts - 11 points scored

  • As of 10-20-2025, She is ranked top 10 state wide sitting at 7th
  • Senior Co-Team Captain
  • Placed 2nd in the 200 IM and 5th in the 100 Butterfly posting best times in both events
  • A part of 1 top 3 finishing relay

 

Rachel Potts - 11 points scored

  • As of 10-20-2025, She is ranked top 10 state wide sitting at 9th as a freshman in High School
  • Placed 4th in the 200 IM posting a best time and 3rd in the 500 Freestyle

  • 6 of the 7 swimmers who scored individual points have been a part of Shock Wave at some time

Ruth Ann Burton - 12 points scored

  • Placed 2nd in the 100 breaststroke dropping about 7 seconds from her best time

Carson Poyner - 8 points scored

  • A part of 2 top 3 finishing relays
  • Placed 3rd in the 100 butterfly dropping about 3 seconds from his best time

Saltillo High School

  • 100% of the athletes that scored on the Saltillo High School Roster have been a part of Shock Wave

Stand Out Swims

Levi Johnson - 18 points scored

  • As of 10-20-2025, He is ranked top 5 state wide sitting at 5th
  • Senior Team Captain
  • Placed 1st in both the 100 Backstroke and 100 Butterfly
  • A part of 1 top 3 finishing relay

 

Class I

Itawamba High School

Bailey Waltz  - 11 points scored

  • Highest scoring girl on Itawamba’s roster
  • Placed 5th in the 200 freestyle and 2nd in the 500 freestyle dropping around 2 seconds in her 200 free and around 30 seconds in her 500 free from her best times

 

Karson Plunkett - 8 points scored (relay)

  • Fighting injury this season, Karson recovered to aid his relay team to a Top 5 finish

Tupelo Christian Prep School (TCPS)

Sidney Darsey - 8 points scored (relay)

  • First time attending state meet and helped aid a relay to a Top 5 finish

Caroline Roberts

  • 2nd appearance at state meet and posted a Top 15 finish in the 100 freestyle dropping around 3 seconds from her best time
