Check Your Credentials Before You Go to a Meet

Throughout the swim season, we want to ensure all USA Swimming members in good standing can continue to be credentialed for on deck access.

Before you arrive at a swim meet, we suggest you do the following.

Check your current USA Swimming membership card in your hub account:

  1. Login to your USA Swimming account dashboard on the website or on the USA Swimming app;
  2. Click your membership card to view all membership requirements; and
  3. Confirm all membership requirements are not expired and your membership status states you are a member in good standing. (Memberships in good standing should have a gold check mark).

If you have courses that have not been completed or are expired:

  • Login to your USA Swimming hub account dashboard on the USA Swimming website;
  • Click the "Education" tab in the blue banner towards the top of the website;
  • Click "Course Catalog";
  • Find the expired course and complete it (we suggest saving a PDF or other proof of completion).

APT, Background Check, and Coach Education Courses will update on your member record within 48 hours. CPR/First Aid, Concussion Protocol Training, and Safety Training for Swim Coaches completion certificates should be sent to your LSC.

If you have a completed APT, Background Check, or any Coach Education course which is not up to date on your membership card and it has been more than 48 hours since completion:

  • Click  here to submit a ticket with proof of completion. This can include a PDF or screenshot.
  • Please be advised that turnaround time could take up to 30 days.

Athlete Protection Training (APT)
Adult members of USA Swimming (i.e., those 18 years and older) must complete APT annually. Log into your hub account, go to the education tab and then the safe sport tab to begin your APT training. The APT expires on the date shown in your account. The full APT course takes about 2-3 hours to complete. The three refresher APT courses take 30-60 minutes to complete.

Athletes must complete the APT training before turning 18 and then annually. Athlete guide to taking the APT course:   PDF

Background Check
For those members that must complete a background check, there is NO substitute for demonstrating a completed background check. If your USA Swimming account does not reflect a current background check, you will not receive deck access and/or a credential. To start a background check, log into your hub account, then go to education, and then go to safe sport. Click on the backgorund check tab and follow the prompts. Backgorund checks are good for two years and expire on the last day of the month. Background checks can take up to 2 weeks or more to clear so don't wait until the end of the month to start your background check. There is a fee for the background check.

CPR/First Aid, Concussion Protocol Training and Safety Training for Swim Coaches
Coaches should email their CPR, lifeguard, concussion, safety training for swim coaches - online, and safety training for swim coaches - in water certificates to the LSC registrar to update in your hub account. If you have a current lifeguard certificate, that will count for both CPR and STFSC-W certifications. Check the USA Swimming website unde the coaches tab for a list of acceptable courses. The online CPR course does not count for CPR - you must also take the hands on CPR course to recieve credit.

The concussion course may be taken thourgh either the CDC or NFHS. For USA Swimming, you only need to take the concussion course once currently. For high school sports, you must take the NFHS course at www.nfhslearn.com annually after June 1.

If you have questions or need assistance, contact your LSC registrar -- currently Susan Huckeby and Jay Friend.
