Katharine Berkoff Wins 50 meter Backstroke and Takes Silver in 100 meter Backstroke at US Open in Austin

Former MAC swimmer Katharine Berkoff won the women's 50 meter backstroke title at the US Open in Austin on December 4. Katharine held off challenger Regan Smith by almost a quarter of a second. Berkoff finished in a time of 27.28 seconds, Smith had a time of 27.52. Look for Katharine to be at the 2028 Olympics in LA!

Katharine holds the American record in this event with a time of 26.97. Katharine won the gold at the 2025 World Championships and Regan took the silver in the 50 backstroke.

Katharine swam to a silver medal finish in the 100 meter backstroke witha time of 58.71. World record holder Regan Smith won the event witha pool record time of 58.19.
