LAVINIA ALBU - HEAD COACH 

Came to us from Romaina with a master degree in physical education and sport with a specialization in swimming. Lavinia coached Eitan Orbach and Michael Halika [ISRAEL]  who participated in the 1996 Olympic Games and made it into the B finals. She has over 40 years of coaching experience in Romania, Israel, Venezuela, and now over 20 years in United States coaching MWYS Swimmers. She is a former swimmer and in 2012 did participate in the World Master Swimming Championship in Italy, being the winner (first place) in her age group on 50 back.

Lavinia is a certified level three coach with the American Swim Coach Association. She is our head coach and has been with the MetroWest YMCA Stingrays for more than 20 years. Lavinia is YMCA certified in Principles of YMCA Swimming and Dividing, and Advanced Coaches Training and is certified in Youth and Adult YMCA Swim lessons.

 

BOB MCGUIRE - assistant coach

Bob grew up in New Hyde Park in NY and swam for Holy Cross HS, Flushing NY and All City in the 100 y butterfly. He swam for the Eastern Queens YMCA and the Manhasset Swim Club under Bill Irwin. His coaching experience includes: head coach for Women’s Swimming at St. John’s University, Jamaica, NY, Masters coach for Boston Sports Club in Franklin MA, a volunteer assistant coach at Boston College Swimming and Diving. Bob did coach the Boston College Eaglets Recreational team an dBC Masters. Bovb was the head coach for Charles River YMCA in Needham MA.

Bob is a level 2 Masters Swim coach and Level 1 USA Swim coach. Started coaching with MetroWest Stingrays in 2021. He is also an Assistant Coach for the Babson College Swimming and Diving Team in Wellesley, Ma.

 

JERED KILLGOAR - assistant coach

Coach  Jared Killgoar is happy to return  to the  very same  pool  whe re he learned how to swim as a child, now as a coach.  A Framingham native, Coach  Killgoar has coached high school swimming for 14 seasons.  He coached  as an assistant for  six seasons at his alma m a ter, Framingham High  School, before he became head coach  of  the  Brookline High School  Boys Swimming and Diving  team for eight  seasons .  During his tenure at  Brook line High S chool ,  Coach  Killgoar’ s  team won  a conference title and placed second  at the South/Central Sectionals.   In 2014 , he   received two awards: The  Brookline High School Coach of the Year Award and the  Eastern Massachusetts Interscholastic Swim Coaches A ssociation (EMISCA)  Coach of the Y ear  Award.  While he is proud of those awards, he attributes  these successes and the success of the team to  the collabor a tive effort of all the coaches. After relocating with his growing family, C oach  Killgoar decided to step away from the  head coach  position  and  instead  coac h part time with the Stingrays.  He takes a great deal of pride in coaching swimmers of al l abilities and watching them grow  throughout their training. H e  looks forward to seeing his current swimmers improve in both short and long term.   In addition to coaching, Coach Killgoar has taught science  at Framingham Hi gh School for over 16 years. H e enjoys fishing, cooking for his wife and two daughters, and  he is an avid fan of  the New England Patriots.
