Tanya started coaching when she was 18 years old for her summer league team in Forest City, NC. She coached part time in the summer while at UGA. Her first year round coaching position opened up for in 2000 at YSSC while she was training for the Olympics. She became a very successful age group coach with YSSC producing many State Champions and national level swimmers. She became the Grad Assistant at Gardner Webb University while training herself and earned a full time coaching position with the University later down the road. She and her family relocated to Monroe, NC in 2007 for her husband's job. She took a break from coaching to be a "Stay home Mom". However, in 2011, Tanya was diagnosed with Hodgins Lymphoma which was a defining moment in her life. She decided to go volunteer at SwimMAC Carolina to get her mind off of the chemo and radiation. The rest is history! She began part time but quickly turned to full time due to the quick success. She then returned to Gardner Webb for 2 years of full time assistant coaching. Tanya decided to cut back her work hours of being on the pool deck to spend more time with her son. She started part time with SAC and has now found the new role of Head Coaching. Tanya has coached all ages from age groupers at Y-Spartaquatics to college swimmers at Gardner Webb University. At the club level, she has produced many Olympic Trial swimmers, National level swimmers, State Champions and even to the smallest of their first "B" time. At the college level, she has produced Conference Champions, NCAA qualifiers, Olympic Trial qualifiers, Scholastic All-Americans, school record holders, and guided the Bulldogs to a 2nd place and 3rd place finish at the CSCAA Conference Championships.
In 2019, The American Swimming Coaches Association awarded Tanya with the prestigous "Doc Councilman" award for creativity in coaching. In 2020, Tanya was inducted in to the Rutherford County Hall of Fame for all of her accomplishments in the sport of swimming.

His best events were 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 200 IM. He also qualified for US Summer Nationals. He is a great young man and has a heart for coaching! His passion is teaching the mechanics of the strokes and is extremely particular about technique! Coach Jordan is now in his 5th full season at SAC and Lead Coach for the 12 & under program and an assistant to the 13 & over program. Under his leadership, SAC has continued to grow into an established age group program. He is a great asset to SAC! He is married to Allyson Mintz and they live in Shelby and have 2 cats.
A word from Jordan: “I am very excited to be bringing all of my experiences and passion for swimming to Sharks Aquatic Club.”
Coach Lisa enjoys a
very active life. Her and her husband Donnie have raised five
children, and now
have seven grandchildren. They enjoy taking large family vacations,
running several businesses,
serving churches and their community.
Her love of the
water began at age four in the family’s pool. She received
her first lifeguarding
certification at 15, scuba certification at 21, and a class C
sailing license at 24. She has been a
lifeguard and swim instructor at numerous country clubs and
YMCA’s over the years but her
first lifeguarding job was at South Mountain Christian Camp where,
after finishing her BA in
Elementary Education, she later became the Assistant Executive
Director.
For the last 20 years, Lisa has worked as the HR Manager for, AE
Global Media. But her love of
swim was reignited when her grandchildren began swimming for a
summer league that needed
coaches. After running 27 half marathons all over the country, knee
and heat issues became a
problem, so the water was a welcome
decompression.
She renewed her
Lifeguard Certification through the Red Cross, then completed her
USA Swim
Coaching certification. She will be leading our Swim
School program in the fall.
We are very excited
to have Lisa on board at SAC!
A word from Lisa: "I
am excited to be a part of the Shark’s learn to swim program
and to continue growing as a coach"
Coach Cam has just finished his first season with SAC working with the Mako group. Cam has been around the swimming pool since he was 6 years old. He decided to get into coaching when his son wanted to join his local summer league team, and there he realized that he loved coaching and mentoring kids!
Cam attended Appalachian State University, where he studied technical photography. Since 2008, he and his wife have owned a sport photography company in Shelby called SportsPix, combining their passion for capturing moments with a love for the community. Outside of the pool or behind the camera, He loves spending time outdoors- Skiing, camping, and exploring nature with his family. SAC is excited to have Cam on board and look forward to building a great future in the sport.
A word from Cam: Coach Tanya and Coach Jordan have been incredible guides, teaching me so much along the way. Their support has fueled my growth, and I’m excited about the future as I continue developing into the best coach I can be. Being part of Sharks Aquatic Club is an incredible experience. The team’s energy, the dedication of the swimmers, and the strong sense of community make it a truly special place. I love working with the kids and watching them grow both in and out of the pool, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together!
