Boston Y Bluefins

The Boston YMCA Bluefins (BYB) swim team is a year-round competitive program serving those in the surrounding communities by helping swimmers of all abilities reach his or her highest potential.  The Bluefins apply the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility to all aspects of the sport while also focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Bluefins program also instills commitment, dedication, teamwork, and a love of swimming within each member of the team and builds a strong foundation for a lifetime of healthy fitness habits. BYB coaches and volunteers provide a safe and supportive environment for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

The Bluefins participate in YMCA and USA Swimming Association competitions at the local, state, regional, and national level.

The Boston YMCA Bluefins are a professionally coached competitive swim team for swimmers ages 5 and up.  The team practices at the BURBANK YMCA and the NORTH SUBURBAN YMCA.

The Bluefins have two seasons.  The winter season (Short course – 25 yards) begins in September and runs to February vacation, with swimmers who qualify for Championships practicing thru March.  The Summer Season (long course- 50 meters) begins in April and ends in July.

BYB competes in Division I of the Eastern Mass YMCA Swim League.  We are also a USA swim club and a member of New England Swimming.  Participation in USA swimming is optional during the winter but is required for members of the summer team who wish to compete in meet competition.

BYB parents and family members are an integral part of BYB success.  Parents can support their swimmers by making sure the swimmers attend practices and meets, by assisting in hosting meets, and by participating in a variety of volunteer activities for the team.  There are a number of social and fundraising activities for both the swimmer and the family planned during each season and parents and siblings are encouraged to participate.

The BYB swim team provides professional coaching and instruction in a modern facility with a positive atmosphere to enhance the learning experience, accomplishments, and enjoyment of our swimmers.  Besides the obvious benefits of physical fitness and good health, our team members develop a sense of self-discipline and commitment that will carry over to all aspects of life.

The BYB team is proud of the achievements of our swimmers, which include District, New England, and National competitors.  The personal discipline developed in the program has brought team members success in both the pool and the classroom.
