***ATLA SATURDAY UPDATE***
Good morning team,
We have a few days of pretty cold weather coming up here into the weekend. As you guys are aware, the YMCA has had a non-functioning HVAC and heating system since August. Being as it was warmer months, the heating factor has not been as much of a problem until recently.
As the temperature has dropped this week, the pool deck in the mornings at the YMCA has been dipping very low. DJ has been monitoring this for us, and will do so tomorrow morning as well. There is a chance we may not run Saturday morning practice for any of our groups if we feel the deck temperature will be down too low.
This is not just for the comfort of our swimmers, but also for the air quality. When the air temperature is significantly colder than the water, it has the potential to create steam. When our swimmers get in and churn the chemicals around, they get mixed with the steam and can get into the lungs much thicker and make it increasingly more difficult to breathe in clean air.
I will make an annoucement tomorrow morning about Saturday practice. Once DJ can check the temp in the morning tomorrow we will have a better idea of if the deck temperature will continue to drop into Saturday.
Thank you all for your patience with this!
