***ATLA WEEKLY NEWS BLAST - November 18th to December 1st***
Good evening team,
Our news blast is a little different this week since we are just ONE WEEK away from Thanksgiving, CRAZY! Please read below for a few annoucements for the next TWO weeks.
FOOD DRIVE CONTEST WINNERS
- Before we can annouce an official winner, there are four bags/items that are unclaimed since there was no name on them.
- There are three white plastic CVS bags, one brown plastic Hannahford's bag, and one box of pampers diapers that are unclaimed.
- Please let me know by Monday night 9 PM if these items are yours. If they remain unclaimed by Tuesday morning, they will not count towards any team (though they will still be donated on Monday).
- Winners will be annouced Tuesday!
PRACTICE WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 20th
- On Wednesday November 20th, the Portsmouth recreation board is having their monthly meeting in the meeting room at the PIP.
- This means no parents will be allowed into the meeting room during practice time. Please plan to either wait in your cars or take a little drive/walk around that evening.
- PLEASE DO NOT SIT IN THE LOBBY! The aquatics manager at the PIP is asking we keep the lobby free and clear in order for the Portsmouth Rec Board to have easy access to the meeting room and to move around the facility as needed!
PRACTICE CHANGES (11/18-12/1)
- All practice the week of 11/18 to 11/24 is normal.
- Practice the week of Thanksgiving will be as follows:
- Monday 11/25 - Normal
- Tuesday 11/26 - Normal
- Wednesday 11/27 - Friday 11/29 - NO PRACTICE ALL GROUPS
SAFE SPORT
- As a reminder, our safe sport coordinator and point of contact is Bill Nichols. If you have ANY safe sport conerns please do not hesitate to reach out to him!
- Below is information for our Safe Sport certification we need to run our meet in January.
- In order to complete this certification, we need parents to take a class online as well as any swimmers over the age of 13.
- This year, they have also introduced a class for swimmers under age 13. You only have to do this if you are comfortable with your 12&U swimmer taking this class! This will add points to our account still, but the bulk of our requirement is 13 and older swimmers.
- For a little information on Safe Sport, please CLICK HERE
- Instructions:
- In order to take this class and receive proper credit, you MUST be logged into your parent account through USA Swimming (the one you used to sign your swimmer up). Please see THIS SCREENSHOT
- Once you are logged in, you can either:
- Navigate back to THIS PAGE and click on the box at the bottom that says "USA Swimming Learn". SEE SCREENSHOT
- OR you can navigate right to the USA Swim Learn section from your login homepage by clicking on the "Education" dropdown menu and selecting "Course Catalog". SEE SCREENSHOT
- Once inside the catalog, click on the "Parents/Volunteers" button in the center of the screen. SEE SCREENSHOT
- Then the class you are looking for is called "Parent's Guide to Misconduct in Sport". SEE SCREENSHOT
- This class should only take 1-2 hours. Once completed, I receive a report on my end with your name and completion notification.
- Every person that takes this class and it gets registred through the team will receive a $25 credit PER PERSON to their team account.
- Swimmers: To take this class you need to have your own USA Swimming accounts. PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO SET UP YOUR SWIMMER'S ACCOUNT AND LINK IT TO YOU. This will be important for them when they get older anyways so this is valuable to do at any age!
- Once you swimmer has their own account, they need to log in to THEIR account to take the swimmer class.
- Once in the Course Catalog again, click on the "Athletes" bubble in the center. SEE SCREENSHOT
- The course your swimmer is looking for is called "Safe Sport for Youth Athletes (13-17)". For 12 and under swimmers, you want the "SafeSport for Kids" class. SEE SCREENSHOT
- I will receive a similar notification for the swimmer classes as the adult classes and they will also count as a $25 ceredit when completed.
