***ATLA WEEKLY NEWS BLAST - September 8th to 14th***

Coach Rhi Jeffrey

Good morning team,

We hope you all enjoyed a nice long swim break and are ready to tackle a new season! There are a few important annoucements this week (and there will be over the next few weeks) so please make sure you are reading these weekly blasts!

NEW COACH

  • This season, Atlantis has brought a new coach on board! Let's all give a warm welcome to coach Julie Meyers!
  • Coach Julie will be working primarily with the Kraken group as well as stepping in to help with Leviathan and Siren from time to time.
  • Fun fact, Julie is also the mom of a swimmer on our team so she already knows what it is like to be an Atlantean!
  • A little on coach Julie:
    • Julie brings a lifelong passion for water and aquatics with her 35 years of experience teaching swimming. She swam competitively for 15 years and coached for almost 5 years in Salem, NH. She is known to specialize with developing swimmers, helping build confidence, technique, and a love of the water and sport. Julie will bring a perfect mix of skill, energy, and leadership skills to our younger age group swimmers.
    • A quote from Julie, "I am looking forward to helping create leaders on and off the deck and cannot wait to get to know all of the amazing swimmers that I watched over the summer."

PRACTICE CHANGES

  • NO DRYLAND THIS WEEK (Dryland starts 9/15)
  • NO PRACTICE TUESDAY
  • On Thursday, the PIP is closing from 8 AM to 3:30 PM to repair their boiler. They do not anticipate any changes to practice, but if something comes up I will send out a blast!

COMMUNICATION & SOCIAL MEDIA

  • All of our team communication comes through TeamUnify (now SportsEngine).
  • If you download the SportsEngine app, it is even easier for me to be able to send last minute practice or meet changes to you. It is too difficult for me to track each person down by phone or email when things pop up.
  • If you have access to Facebook and Instagram, our team has accounts on both of those platforms that I will be working on keeping up to date with changes and information. Please follow Atlantis Aquatics on both platforms if you are able.

PARENT MEETING

  • Our parent meeting this season will be on Saturday October 4th @ 10:00 AM.
  • We will have the meeting LIVE in the Water Country conference room (details and directions to follow later). We will broadcast virutally for those who cannot attend in person.
  • There will be coffee and small breakfast pasteries (possibly bagels) that the coaching staff will provide for attendees.
  • We will have an ATLA "yard sale" where we will have old shirts and equipment on sale.
  • This is also a great time for an equipment swap. If you have old equipment you do not use any more (shirts, fins, parkas, etc) we would love for you to bring them in to donate to other swimmers on the team who may need them.
  • We are going to run a raffle for those who attend in person. Each family with a representative at the meeting will have their name put into a random drawing. The winner will receive $200 off their swim season as a credit to their account.
  • If you cannot attend the parent meeting, please let me know in advance and I can work out an alternative with you.
  • Friendly reminder: your $100 parent meeting deposit will be forfeit if you do not attend the meeting nor let me know you cannot attend BEFORE the meeting occurs (emergencies will be dealt with on a case by case basis).

DRYLAND

  • Dryland for Siren, Hydra, and Triton will remain optional for the 2025-2026 season.
  • Dryland for Poseidon is MANDATORY once per week.
  • If you do not show up in proper dryland attire (t-shirt, shorts, running shoes; NO CROCS OR FLIP FLOPS!!!) then you will be marked absent that day and not allowed to participate.
  • All groups that have dryland sessions you are planning on attending are required to purchase a yoga mat. These are very inexpensive and you can grab them at Walmart, Amazon, Target, etc.

GROUP PROGRESS REPORTS

  • This year we arre going to be bringing back our swimmer progress reports for all groups.
  • These will occur twice per season (once about halfway through the season and once at the end of the season.)
  • They will include things like:
    • Attendance percentages
    • Behavior reports
    • Stroke (FR, BK, FL, BR) progress/improvements
    • Meet progress (if applicable)
    • Things that need extra attention (if any)

GOAL SHEETS

  • Our Hydra, Triton, and Poseidon groups will be doing goal sheets again this fall.
  • Please be prepared to fill these out and have a one on one with your group coach to go over your goals for the SCY season!

Let's have a great start to a new season!
