WPI-Elite

Greenwood’s highest level training group. Members of this group should compete at as many meets as possible and have the goal of receiving scholarship to swim in college. Elite group excels in interval training, resistance training and on-deck dryland to enhance their competitive swimming skills. Elite group also utilizes available tools outside of the pool to optimize performance in training and competition (i.e. recovery, nutrition, etc.).

Required Equipment:

  • kickboard of choice, hydro-blade fins, pull buoy, pull ankle strap, TYR catalyst paddles (or similar), snorkel, red parachute, tempo trainer, team mesh bag, team cap (required for all practices and swim meets), team suit (required to compete at swim meets)

WPI-Gold

Greenwood’s second-highest training group. Members of this group attend the majority of practices and meets with the intent of swimming throughout high school and in college. Gold group excels in interval training, on-deck dryland and technical stroke development to enhance their competitive swimming skills. 

Required Equipment:

  • kickboard of choice, hydro-blade fins, pull buoy, pull ankle strap, TYR catalyst paddles (or similar), snorkel, red parachute, tempo trainer, team cap (required for all practices and swim meets), team suit (required to compete at swim meets)

WPI-Silver

This group attends most practices and meets to further develop their swimming technique and endurance. In this group, stroke specific drills will also progress. Silver group members work towards improving interval training and building aerobic capacity. Race pace training and race strategy is introduced in this group.

  • kickboard of choice, fins (long blade or hydro-blade), pull buoy, TYR catalyst paddles (or similar), snorkel, team cap (required for all practices and swim meets), team suit (required to compete at swim meets)

WPI-Bronze

This group strives to attend 5 practices per week with the intent of swimming competitively year-round. Bronze group emphasizes developing stroke technique with a variety of drills while being introduced to aerobic training. This group will also follow intervals and maintain lane etiquette.

WPI-Development

Greenwood’s entry-level training group at WPI. This training group is designed for swimmers coming from a summer/recreational team and/or formal swim lessons looking to take their swimming to the competitive level. In this group, swimmers need to know the fundamentals of all 4 swimming strokes and strive towards completing all strokes legally. Starts and turn technique will also be introduced in this group. Development swimmers attend up to 3 training sessions per week to improve on different skills as the season progresses.

MWCC Gardner-Development

Greenwood’s entry-level training group at MWCC. This training group is designed for swimmers coming from a summer/recreational team and/or formal swim lessons looking to take their swimming to the competitive level. In this group, swimmers need to know the fundamentals of all 4 swimming strokes and will strive towards completing all strokes legally. Starts and turn technique will also be introduced in this group. Development swimmers strive to attend 3 training sessions per week to improve on different skills as the season progresses.
