Freestyle Fling Wrap Up

Saturday 10/5 was a fun day to get back in the pool and watch the kids compete again.  It was all freestyle events and lessons learned included:

• You have to touch every wall with your hands or your feet or you get disqualified
• The whistle doesn't mean go - you wait for the beep!
• Adjust goggles so you can dive in with them and not end up with them full of water
• Count your lengths! If you are swimming a 200 then you go down and back 8 times!
• If you are counting for someone swimming the 500 you go to 17 then the 2 red squares!

There were lots of swimmers trying new events.  Shout outs to:

• Reid S swam the 100 & 200 free for the 1st time 
• Zoey H, Brian J, Ananmaya V all swam the 200 free for the 1st time
• Keira K, Cam D, and Jake M all swam the 500 free for the first time

Some other meet highlights:

• Connar S swam his 1st meet as a RAY and due to a timing malfunction swam the 50 free twice going 25s both times!
• Jack F swam 2 personal best times in the 50 & 100 free. 
• Our 10&U girls free relay took 13s off their seed time!  Nice work Keira K, Zoe K, Kayla K and Isabelle S
• Sarah K and Holden S joined their older siblings by swimming in their 1st meet!  They have been watching from the stands and finally got to swim too!
• Helena S has been working on her streamlines & dolphin kicks and she did them consistently even in her 200 free which she didn’t think she’d be able to!
• Many swimmers dropped times in their events which is definitely something to be proud of!

Meets always give us chances to reflect and focus on things we do well and things we can work on to swim more efficiently and faster.  Kudos to all the swimmers who talked to coaches and got feedback after their events.  We expect and want this to happen and that is why we watch the races.
