Code of Conduct
Shawmut Aquatic Club, Inc. members are expected to behave in an orderly, courteous, and sportsmanlike manner during all club-related functions, including practices and meets.
COVID-19 Safety Policies
1. I willingly agree to comply with ALL COVID-19 related team safety precautions which includes but is not limited to wearing a face covering, social distancing, hand sanitizing, etc. at ALL indicated times. Failure to do so could result in being barred from a training session, suspended from the team or termination from the team with no restitution or compensation.
2. I willingly agree to comply with all quarantining and testing guidance provided by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health in order to participate in team training, activities and events.
General Policies
- All members will abide by this code of conduct and policies in the SAC Team handbook.
- Disrespectful, indiscreet, or destructive behavior will not be tolerated. It is the responsibility of each member to make every effort to avoid guilt by association with such activities at any time during the year. All sources of communication apply including email, instant messages, social media/networking and phone calls.
- All Shawmut families will show respect towards all coaches, swimmers and parents (of SAC and other teams), as well as all USA Swimming officials and swim meet personnel.
- Swimmers are to refrain from inappropriate and unwanted physical contact at team activities and events.
- Sexual language, behavior or actions of any kind are prohibited at all times (this includes speech, electronic communication, touching, etc.).
- Phones and other recording devices are NOT allowed to be used in the locker rooms. Phones and other recording devices are NOT allowed to be VISIBLE in the locker rooms. These should be stored in bags.
- Swimmers are to refrain from use of inappropriate language.
- Mass email/postal mailings will not be tolerated unless approved by the Head Coaches.
- Team members, parents and staff will refrain from any illegal or inappropriate behavior that will detract from a positive image of Shawmut Aquatic Club, New England Swimming LSC, or USA Swimming or be detrimental to its performance objectives.
- Any defacement or destruction of property at our home pool or at away meets will not be tolerated. Damage will be assessed and repaired, and the cost of the repairs will be assessed to the perpetrator's family.
- The possession or use of alcohol, tobacco product or controlled substances by any athlete is prohibited.
- Stealing of any kind and under any circumstances will be cause for immediate suspension or dismissal from Shawmut.
- Swimmers are expected to be prepared for training every day including proper swim and dryland attire/ equipment.
- Shawmut swimmers are expected to begin each training session, meet and activity on-time. Swimmers need to arrive with enough time to prepare (dress/change, fill water bottles, etc.) to begin each activity at the designated start time. Being dropped off at the practice/meet start time will not allow swimmers to start their session on-time. The coaching staff reserves the right to bar late swimmers from a particular SAC related activities without prior warning.
- Swimmers are expected to travel with and stay with the team on team travel trips. Any exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Head Coaches or his/her designee prior to the trip.
- If a swimmer has to be sent home from a Travel trip for disciplinary reasons, parents agree to cover immediate transportation costs to send the athlete home.
- Swimmers/ Parents must follow the policies in the Team Handbook.
Violation of the Code of Conduct Rules
- Swimmers may be scratched from the meet.
- Swimmers may be sent home immediately from practice or meet at their own expense.
- Member may be suspended or dismissed from the team until the Member has had a conference with the Head Coaches and appropriate disciplinary actions have been implemented.
- A swimmer who is dismissed from practice for disciplinary reasons is expected to dress in the locker room and report back to the pool deck, to be supervised until practice is completed. Swimmers who must get out of the water for other reasons must also remain on the pool deck.
- Members who exhibit inappropriate behavior that detracts from the positive image of Shawmut may face disciplinary action or dismissal from the team without a refund.
