New England Records and Best Times at the 2022 Winter Junior Championships
James Misto and William McClelland traveled to Greensboro, North Carolina earlier this week to represent Gator Swim Club in the 2022 Winter Junior Championships, and competition is off to a very impression start!
On Wednesday evening, they kicked off the meet with the 200 Medley Relay, joining forces with their Gator - North teammates–Cole Gorsuch and Jack Butera–to break the New England 15-18 and Open Record, previously held by the Bluefish, in the event. James’s fly split of 21.61 and William’s freestyle split of 20.48 were crucial to the squad’s success and final time of 1:30.87.
The fabulous swims continued on Thursday morning, when both James and William raced the 50 freestyle. James earned a finals swim with a new best time of 20.34, and William finished in a four-way tie for 26th, just missing a finals swim, with his 20.50, also a new best time.
James improved even more on Thursday evening, racing to an 18th place finish in the event with a time of 20.31, and then both boys were back in the water for another record-breaking relay performance. Cole, Jack, James, and William combined for a time of 3:18.67 in the 400 Medley Relay, a new New England 15-18 and Open Record.
Both James and William have the 100 fly and 100 free, as well as other relay swims, on their schedule–stay tuned for more updates!
