So you're brand new to this whole competitive swim team thing? Here are a few FAQ's we receive from other parents of swimmers ages 12 and under. Hopefully this information will help.
"I have a few questions about swim team..."
What is SCY? SCY stands for "Short Course Yards" which is the period of swim season where swimmers swim in 25 yard pools. This season stretches from September through the end of March.
What is LCM? LCM stands for "Long Course Meters", which is the period of swim season where swimmers race in 50 meter pools (think of the Olympics). This season goes from April through the end of July
How often are meets? Meets are varied through the year, generally once a month, usually in the middle weekend of the month. Schedule will be posted on the website shortly
Where are they located? For athletes ages 12 and under-meets are generally within the local area with drive time no longer than 60 minutes away. We usually stay within the Boston area, traveling to the North Shore area at most.
Does it cost more to swim in meets? There is a meet surcharge and entry fee for meets. Depending on number of entries for your swimmer is entered in, it is generally no higher than $45, on average $15-25
