PRACTICE GROUPS
The Camillus Swim Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Camillus Swim Club to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.
Coaches will place the swimmers where they best fit. The below descriptions are guidelines.
WHITE GROUP
- FOCUS: Swimmers just beginning their club swimming career participate in practices that focus on developing the four legal strokes (Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Freestyle), as well as some dry land training. Legal competitive starts and turns are also introduced.
- The Goal of this group is to learn to do all 4 competitive strokes legally, learn to do all turns that go with the strokes and learn to do a competition start
- Practices: consist of 80% stroke work and development and 20% training
- 2 Days a week 60 minutes a day
- Requirement:
- MUST be able to swim 25 yards both freestyle and backstroke without assistance to join.
- This is not a learn to swim program, younger swimmers should have some prior swim training before joining.
- To be considered for group movement:
- Must be able to swim all 4 strokes legally
- Complete 50 yards of all 4 strokes legally
BLUE GROUP
Coaches Approval Required
- FOCUS: Swimmers continue their swimming career in practices that focus on continued development in the four legal strokes (Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Freestyle), refinement of strokes as well as more advanced stroke development. as well as some dry land training. Legal competitive starts and turns are also taught and developed.
- The Goal of this group is to give the swimmers confidence in their strokes and to make them more comfortable with doing some basic sets and reading the pace clock
- Practices consist of 70% stroke work and development and 30% training
- 3 Days a week - 60 minutes a day.
- Requirement:
- Can swim all 4 strokes legally (50 yards)
- Other swimmers may be in the group as coaching staff deems appropriate based on practice habits, and attentiveness.
- To be considered for group movement:
- Must be able to swim all 4 strokes legally
- Successfully complete a 200 Free and 200 IM legally
GOLD GROUP
Coaches Approval Required
- FOCUS: Swimmers are given challenging workouts and drills that focus heavily on aerobic development, as well as technique refinement for swimmers who already have a solid base in all four competitive strokes. Refinements begin to occur once the swimmer has technically correct strokes. In this group, the swimmer continues to refine skills and works on interval training at each practice.
- The Goal of this group is to give the swimmers confidence in competition and to teach them good practice habits as well as teaching them to train properly.
- Practice: consist of 50% stroke work and development and 50% training.
- 4 days a week - 75 minutes a day
- Requirements:
- Can swim all 4 strokes legally
- Swimmer has shown a desire to improve and the commitment to swimming by coming to practices regularly.
- Other swimmers may be in the group as coaching staff deems appropriate based on practice habits, and attentiveness.
- To Be considered for group movement:
- Have achieved at least 2 "B" Silver Cuts for 11-12 age group (regardless of age)
- Test set of Coach's discretion
JUNIOR GROUP
Coaches Approval Required
- FOCUS: Swimmers begin the transition to the Senior competition level. Focus is placed on the continuation of proper stroke technique and development with more advanced endurance training. Swimmers are taught how to train more intensively and with more focus. There is an expected commitment to attend practices regularly. The focus of the group is qualifying for LSC Championships (Silvers), LSC Championship finals (Golds), Zones and other higher level meets.
- The Goal of this group is to prepare swimmers for more upper level swimming and development toward becoming senior swimmers.
- Practice: Practices consist of 30% stroke work and development and 70% training.
- 5 days a week - 90 Minutes a Day
- Requirements:
- Extensive competitive experience
- Can swim all 4 competitive strokes legally and competently.
- Mentally, emotionally and physically able to handle longer practices, more practice time and longer, more intense practice sets.
- Other swimmers may be in the group as coaching staff deems appropriate based on practice habits, and attentiveness.
- To be considered for group movement:
- Test set of Coach's discretion
SENIOR GROUP
Coaches Approval Required
- FOCUS: The highest level of training offered. Swimmers train heavily in all four competitive strokes, learn race strategies, and focus on becoming the most competitive well-rounded swimmer they can be. Heavy aerobic development will be part of each practice. Swimmers should be mentally, emotionally and physically able to handle longer, more intense practice sets.
- The Goal of this group is to prepare swimmers for higher level meets and college swimming. Swimmers are also expected to do work on their own to help increase the results from training.
- Practice: Practices consist of 20% stroke work and development and 80% training.
- 5 days a week - 120 minutes a day
- Requirements:
- Extensive competitive experience
- Can swim all 4 competitive strokes legally and competently.
- Swimmers are expected to be self-motivated, committed and have demonstrated their desire to improve and work hard for improvement.
- Swimmers will also be expected to have leadership skills and be team oriented.
MASTERS GROUP
Adults (Age 18+)
- FOCUS: CSC Masters provides structured training for adult swimmers. Swimmers of all backgrounds and ability level are welcome. Please note that this is NOT learn to swim and all participants must safely be able to swim the length of the pool to join.
- The Goal of this group is to provide adults a quality workout in a team environment and help them to achieve their goals- whether those goals are to go a PB in a meet or triathlon, or just general fitness goals.
- Practice: Practices are catered toward swimmer's needs and goals.
- 3 days a week, 75 minutes a day.
- Requirements:
- Ability to safely swim laps in a 25 yd pool
- Swimmers must be aged 18+
- USMS membership required (see USMS website)
