OLSC has three levels of swim groups to accommodate a variety of swimmers and athletes. Coaches evaluate athletes throughout the year to ensure they're in whichever group best fits their current level and will recommend moving swimmers up once they've met the guidelines for their current group.

Beginner (Learn to Swim)

  • Tadpoles: swimmers in tadpoles generally come with little to no ability in the water and start with the basics. Coaches are in water with swimmers as they learn to float and kick. Tadpoles often has more than one group based on enrollment, but due to limited coaching staff group sizes may be restricted.

Intermediate

  • Dolphins: From the Tadpoles group, athletes move into Dolphins once they've mastered the basics of swimming. Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, having fun, and perfecting start and turn techniques. Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged and lots of fun!
  • Stingrays: This group has more endurance than Dolphins, but needs a little more refining of skills in order to move up to Barracudas. Focus is on technique and endurance training.
  • Barracudas: Athletes advance into this group from Stingrays. Athletes in this group are usually at least 10 years old and have completed the Stingray group move-up skills list. This group is exposed to higher level endurance training for the first time while trying to prepare for the 200 Freestyle and 200 Individual Medley races. Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged.

Advanced

  • Seniors: All athletes beyond the Barracuda group practice in Seniors. Practice is available 5 days a week for Seniors.
