Swimmers Ring in the New Year with Great Swims

George Soutter

Our swimmers rang in the New Year in style joining hundreds of swimmers from 12 teams at this season’s GSCY New Year’s Splash at the Jersey Aquatic Center in New Providence. The three-day meet resulted in some new swims, Personal Bests, Top Places, new Team Records, and more!

Our 31 attending swimmers had a blast and swam really well. Cam Atkins, Carter Bambara, Molly Bellflowers, Brooklynn Davis, Alex Geliukh, Ty Hollar, Greg Jaromski, Fallon Kaiser, Jonathan Kern, Addison Metzgar, Kaylee Moss, Briella Selby, and Victoria Vance all stepped out of their comfort zone and swam new events. Aside from these, the were 51 Personal Best Times were swum, including some amazing drops like Reese Berg’s 200 Free (-13.65), Alex Geliukh’s 100 Fly (-22.65), Ty Hollar’s 1000 Free (-22.73), Nathaniel Kern’s 1000 Free (-21.09), Teddy Mill’s 500 Free (-12.56), Evan Weinberger’s 500 Free (-26.36), and Hannah Wilson’s 200 Fly (-31.74) just to name a few. All told, 74 of our 118 splashes (63%) were either Personal Bests of new swims- impressive!

Despite being a lot of competition and fast swims throughout the weekend, NJB touched in for a bunch of top places, including Firsts by Reese Berg (200 Breast), Ty Hollar (100 Back, 100 Fly, 100 Free), Jonathan Kern (100 IM, 200 Fly, 200 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free), Nathaniel Kern (100 Back, 100 Fly, 200 Back, 200 Fly, 50 Free), and Hannah Wilson (100 Back, 200 Fly). Overall, NJB earned 31 Top-3 Places!

New Team Records, eight in total, were set by Ty Hollar (500 Free, 1000 Free, 100 Back, 400 IM), Nathaniel Kern (1000 Free, 200 Back, 200 Fly), and Hannah Wilson (200 Fly).

Congratulations to all of our swimmers and coaches! Next up, Hawks Trials and Finals on 1/28-1/29…
