NJB Brought The Heat

George Soutter

Our swimmers had some great swims at this season’s Bring the Heat meet sponsored by the Madison Area YMCA. Swimmers from 16 different teams took to the blocks at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center at Rutgers University for some exciting long-course swimming.

Despite this being our first official long-course meet of the season, and for some their first ever, our swimmers had a bunch of fantastic performances including top places by Maddie Meyler (4th in the 50 Back); Jillian Weinberger (7th in the 200 Free, 2nd in the 100 Back); and a bunch of First Places by Ty Hollar (200 Breast, 200 IM, 50 Free); Jonathan Kern (100 Back, 100 Fly, 100 Free); Nathaniel Kern (100 Back, 100 Fly, 100 Free); Michael Signorile (50 Back); and Hannah Wilson (100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Fly).

The meet yielded different things for different swimmers. For some, it was a confidence boosting opportunity to swim a new event(s) in long course, while for others it was a chance to gauge their training by dropping times from some of their events.  It was a success on both fronts; of our 39 splashes, 22 were first-ever swims and 15 were Personal Best long-course times! Many of those drops were impressive, like Ty Hollar’s 200 IM (-7.83); Connor Kovach’s 100 Free (-10.08) and 50 Fly (-5.85); Carter Muller’s 100 Back (-7.17); just to name a few!

Great job by all! Next up, NY Sharks June Jubilee on 6/16-6/18…
