Swimmers Take First Flight at Condors’ Meet

George Soutter

It was a great start to the ‘23-’24 competition season at this past weekend’s Condors’ Fall Festival in West Nyack, NY. We had a nice mixed-bag of accomplishments including top places, personal best times, club records, and even a bunch of first-ever swims! As Coach Kevin put it, “(it was an) Impressive start to the season. Kids showed that they are ready for a challenging and successful meet schedule and performed with sportsmanship and grit!”

There were a bunch of pride-filled smiles from our attending 26 swimmers. While we typically look forward to swimmers achieving personal bests as the season progresses, they swam 33 of them, out of the 102 splashes; a tribute to their training and hard work! Some of these swims put an exclamation point on this, like Molly Bellflowers’ 50 Breast (-8.96); Ty Hollar’s 1000 Free (-9.92); Chris Jaromski’s 100 Fly (-12.05); Nathaniel Kern’s 1000 Free (-8.41); Teddy Mill’s 200 Back (-6.26); Kaylee Moss’ 100 Breast (-7.35); and Briella Selby’s 50 Back (-5.84) just to name a few.

So how well did our crew stack up against the other 8 teams, including some stiff competition for the likes of the NY Sharks and Condors? While the meet was not scored, our swimmers splashed in a ton a top finishes: Third places were earned by Riley Bacinski (100 Free, 100 Free), Molly Bellflowers (100 Back, 100 Free),  Ty Hollar (200 IM), Ethan Rodriguez (100 Back, 50 Breast), Seconds were swum by Riley Bacinski (100 Fly), Molly Bellflowers (50 Back), Ty Hollar (1000 Free), Jonathan Kern (100 Free, 100 IM), and Nathaniel Kern (100 Back, 200 Back, 50 Free); and a special shout-out to our First Place finishers Jonathan Kern (100 Back, 100 Fly, 1000 Free, 200 Back, 50 Fly), Nathaniel Kern (100 Fly, 100 Free, 1000 Free), and Hannah Wilson (100 Back, 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free)!

Congratulations to Hannah Wilson (200 IM), Nathaniel Kern (200 Free, 1000 Free, 200 Back), and Jonathan Kern (1000 Free) for setting 5 new club records!

Great job by our swimmers and coaches! Next up, STAC Great Gobbled on 11/4-11/5…
