Swimmers Sizzle at Jeffrey Mace Memorial

George Soutter

What an incredible showing by our NJB swimmers this past weekend at the Jeffrey S Mace Memorial Summer Sizzle XXXII at Rutgers University. None of our attending 4 swimmers are new to success, but they really knocked it out of the park in this very competitive meet that brought together some of the best swimmers from our LSC, and beyond- the 36 attending teams were from NJ, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

Despite only having 4 swimmers in attendance, they certainly made their presence known. Their collective 35 splashes resulted in 28 trips to Finals, 16 Top-8 finishes, including an incredible four First Places!

Ty Hollar made it back for 6 of his 9 events, placing in scoring positions in 6 of those earning 25 points for the club. He had some great swims, including 7 Personal Bests (100 Back, 100 Breast, 200 Back, 200 Free, 400 Free, 50 Back).

Jonathan Kern had 7 visits to Finals, placing in the Top 8 for 5 of those and scoring 70 points. Our youngest swimmer in attendance swam 6 Personal Bests (100 Back, 100 Fly, 200 Back, 200 IM, 50 Back, 50 Fly).

Nathaniel Kern was a force to be reckoned with. Making it to finals in all 8 of his events, he placed fourth in the 50 Free and 400 IM; third in the 200 Fly; second in the 400 Free and took an incredible four First Places in the 100 Fly, 200 Free, 200 IM, and 50 Fly! He swam 5 Personal Bests (100 Fly, 200 Free, 200 IM, 400 Free, 50 Fly), with his 100 Fly swim earning him a trip to USA Swimming Futures Championships in Richmond, VA later this month!

Hannah Wilson, competing in the highly competitive 15 & Over age group, also cemented her reputation as a fierce competitor this weekend. Making it back to Finals in all 7 of her events, she placed in the Top 8 three times, including her second place finish in the 200 Back! She earned 64 points for the club, and swam Personal Bests in 5 of her 7 events. Her 400 Free swim was only 22/100ths of a second off of a Speedo Winter Junior Championships cut! Go get ‘em, Hannah!

Great job by all, and good luck to those attending next weekend’s July Heat Wave at Princeton University!
